Looks like youre water pump has gone, or possibly the header tank is cracked.

 

I would say if the car has been parked up these last weeks in the cold then the header tank would be my guess as they are prone to cracking. Easy enough to check by lifting it out - waiting for everything to cool off first obviously! They usually fail underneath.

Either that or the hose under the tank has failed.

 

That is more likely steam than smoke, which is actually a good thing.

My money is on the header tank has a crack underneath. You should be able to fix it relatively cheap.

Perfect, didn't have a chance to get a proper look yesterday so hopefully get down later today. Header tank and hoses will be simple enough to replace.

Non stop issues, just had the abs unit and stuff rebuilt as well 🙈

 

That's almost certainly the expansion tank or hose connection.

There is no smoke, only steam.

Mk3 is completely different, mk2 ST tank is unique, no other tank will fit.

I will agree that the tanks aren't as identical as I thought, but as I said from memory on changing them.

Blue one is my st, red one is 1.0 focus, what the mk3 st uses I can't be sure, but I can be sure that the material is prone to cracks and fractures across the ford range........generally.........on the cars I've worked on.........in europe........

 

Mine was already looking dodgy on mine so bit the bullet. Won't be leaking now..............

Looks like they have tweaked it slightly as I don't think it came with a cap before?
