"a diesel powertrain that produces 10 per cent more power and more than twice as much torque as the 2.0‑litre Duratec ST petrol engine in the first generation Focus ST."

Ha ha... more than the ST170 which was one of least powerful, least torquey 2.0 hot hatches ever !

It is a pretty poor claim, and not many people will care.

If it had 10% more power than the Mk3 ST Diesel it could be worth a look, but it hasn't.

8 bhp increase 295lb/ft or 400nm of torque, which is the same as the Mk3 diesel.

Not exactly mind blowing improvements.

While we're on about diesels, our 2005 b5.5 awx passat is an absolute beast. Had it remapped and its at 170bhp and nearly 300ft/lbs torque they way it pulls for a 14 year old 1.9 diesel with 135k miles on always puts a smile on my face. They way it goes from 70 to 100 is unreal for an old tank. Where before it was mapped it would be all done by 3.5k revs it now pulls hard and doesn't drop off until just before the red line.

I had the VAG PD engine in a Seat Leon FR (150 bhp) and Skoda Fabia vRS (130 bhp) in previous cars.

both remapped really well with the Leon making 203bhp and 300lb/ft (restricted due to clutch restraints) and the Fabia making 180bhp and 280lb/ft. Both were extremely quick in the mid range and returned 60+ mpg on long runs. Amazing engines and both very good cars for their time.

That's the only reason I haven't taken it any further, I was going to bv43 it but the clutch is on the limit of what I can hold, and I can't be bothered faffing with a gearbox swap or trying to find an uprated clutch.

As the topic of this discussion is now a distant memory, I think it's time to give it a rest.
