Ancient one - yes an issue that's often been asked and the concensus is that it's the compressor cutting in and out and nothing to worry about!!

 

I have this but have never experienced it in the other 10 or so Ford models I've had - so why on the ST ?

 

I've no idea....but with the general lack of soundproofing around the rest of the ST could this be the reason?

 

Just to clarify, the noise does not come from the compressor itself but from a relay which controls it.
And yes, it's really annoying.

 

Yes it is! can anything be done/

 

Turn off the air con, open the windows for a nice breeze and listen to the engine instead

A couple more options;
> Turn up the stereo
> use a little more right foot and down it out with the exhaust

 

Cheers for the replies, I have taken your advice and now hang my head out of the window listening to the 5 pot burbling away.......Better than a clicking noise

 

Has anyone noticed the following regarding AC.

On mine say im trundling along at 40 and i stick the AC on it feels like someones yanked the handbreak up a few notches - tiz well annoying.

 

It's by far the most intrusive A/C I've come across on any car.
