This theft could have been prevented for £4. Cost of 2 key pouches. Why on earth don't the dealers sell the cases and make owners more aware. In fact, why don't they give you them.

Though it constantly amazes me how people are happy to spend very large sums of money on their cars, and do about just zero to protect them. My neighbour recently spent a very large amount on a nearly new BMW X6, happily spent (wasted ) £400 on Supaguard, £50 on rubber overmats, etc. When some undesirables drove past and took a crafty photo of it on a Sunday afternoon, he spent the princely sum of £8 on a brake pedal lock ???

Disklok makes zero difference! Takes seconds to get off! A lad has just had his RS taken with a genuine disklok fitted......they removed it in seconds! Nothing will stop them taking your car its that simple.

AutoWatch Ghost will pretty much stop them unless they lift and/or tow it. And this is why I keep my keys in a metal Roses tin when they're in the house

I don't really agree with you on that point. Yes, there are expert thieves out there that can defeat anything, even Auto Ghost recently, but there are also far more chancers of smash and grab mentality, who would be put off by a disklok and move on to an unprotected one. I still hope that if 2 STs are on a car park, one with and one without a disklok, which one they gonna try and nick??

Just to add, if people don't want to use keyless entry, you can get Ford to turn it off. I noticed there is an application to disable it on Etis (can't do it yourself though).

Yes this is very interesting!! I have had the AW Ghost fitted since I got the car in September and I was assured by the fitter and AW themselves that their system cannot be by passed. They could have towed the car, lets be honest.

Ive just read a post about on Instagram about Ghost being by-passed easily. Apparatly they have made a statement about a new software download to stop it? This will effect you, so surely they will let their customers know?

In this instance, the Focus RS was not towed, it was taken in seconds, Ghost was bypassed. The RS was then crashed and abandonded. Ghost have since issued a statement about it all, apparently updating their software to prevent this happening again...

Unlikely was the word I used. I did not claim a Disklok made it impossible.

The idea is simple. If they are carrying around a signal repeater to try and get the fastest and quietest access to our cars, they won't like the idea of removing a Disklok and adding precious time to their getaway. A visual deterrent is better than no deterrent, and if the theives think that you have gone to the time and expense of fitting one, they may expect you to have done other things to make their lives harder and simply look for an easier target.

Its all about doing what you can to slow them down or put them off trying.

Chatting to the garage i use, he claims he gets offered stolen cars on a regular basis for as little as £1500 where the documents have been "mislaid".

No problem matey, I just find it hard to believe that customers havent been informed of this very serious matter. Feel for people out there with pre March 2017 installations who have no idea!

Very good, if you are clever enough to do it. Obviously you can't say on here for all to read, how you did it. I would be worried about cutting into modern looms or wiring, though happily did it in the seventies on Minis and Escorts.

I suppose my local garage could do this though.

 

Step 1..Cut fuel pump live wire
Step 2 Connect both cut ends to switch
Step 3.Hide switch.

This Disklok, allegedly removed in seconds, the lad must have left the key in the disklok.

Or he pushed the lock down without engaging the pin so that from the outside it would appear locked, but would just lift up as the locking pin was not engaged.

I accidentally did that once when I didn't push the locking pin in far enough and the lock part went in so I suppose if you are being lazy that is one way to get caught out.

 

A disklok is an extra layer of security, the more layers the better but it's widely known throughout the forums they have a weakness and can be removed in under a minute
