Rather than resurrect an old thread I'll open a new one...
Had the Sync 3 unit in the car replaced when I purchased the car as the original system was laggy and took ages to respond. The Sync 3 is now out of the warranty so I looked at updating the software to Sync 3.4.
As my Sync 3 has been replaced it is an MY20 unit and can not by updated using the Sync3 updater software.
The Ford website shows that my system is upto date including the maps at F10. Is there a way of updating to the F11 EU maps without using the Ford website?

Unfortunately, my Sync 3 unit is not compatible with the Cyanlabs Sync 3 updater as it is an MY20 unit and from discussions with Cyanlabs the updater would brick the unit.
The Ford Sync updater website is showing only the F10 maps I was looking to see if there was a way to update to F11 maps withiout using their website.

I recently updated the Sync to version 3.0.20204 and then updated the maps to F10 which is a 2 part download. Once I sent the log file for the 2nd part to Ford was expecting F11 to be available but it wasn't. Contacted Ford and their technical team has said there is an issue affecting a lot of customers so they have a massive backlog but are working on it.

I don't think Ford support Sync version 3.4

You can tap the Ford icon on CarPlay to go back to the Sync display. The maps still work. I think you can continue to use the CarPlay source for music. There is a button to go back to CarPlay. You can switch between the two on the fly.

I was using CarPlay and it switched back to the Sync maps when an alert got triggered on the Sync nav once. Something on the road in Germany iirc. Must have been using the traffic broadcasts as I didn’t have the traffic subscription.

I’m about 90% sure the music will carry on playing from carplay when when you switch back to the sync display. It’s been a while, I know you can definitely switch between the two without disconnecting the phone and Im almost certain the music carries on from the phone if that’s where it started as I seem to remember being able to do the opposite and listen to the radio while using CarPlay maps.
I think it just carries on with the last selected source of music.

I think that once CarPlay is running, you’re limited to the navigation apps on your iPhone. You can switch back to the Sync 3 screen for audio, phone, etc but fairly sure when you click on the maps icon it takes you back to whatever navigation app you have on the iPhone, which isn’t a bad thing, as Apple Maps, Google Maps and Waze (Plus others) are likely more upto date with routes and traffic information than the Sync 3 navigation. Most of us have a fairly decent data use limit on our mobile these days, so leaving the mobile data enabled for the phone navigation apps isn’t a major issue.

You're right, I tested this morning and once carplay is running, if you go back to Sync, the map button just takes you back to carplay maps.
That means the alert I had from the Sync maps is even more stupid as it pulled me out of carplay to show me the message on the built in maps screen, so it's clearly still running in the background. Shame it doesn't give you the choice.

It should be possible to just use bluetooth audio though I think if you want to use the built in maps, just don't connect carplay.
