Mountune Clubsport suspension - my review

Recently fitted the Mountune Clubsport suspension to my ST and I'd like to share my experience so far.

I spent a lot of time reading other reviews of this kit (mostly on this forum) but there weren't as many as I'd have liked and I was slightly nervous about the decision in case it turned out to be to hard - hopefully this will help other people make an informed decision.

So before upgrade my car was running normal OEM suspension with 60K on the clock - with WhileLine ARB's fitted (set to firmest setting)

Tested now on :
- daily commute on dual carriage way and motorway
- fast A roads
- tight and twisty B roads

I was frankly astonished at the improvement after fitting :

- Turn in is noticeably quicker
- Body control is now excellent
- Speed you can carry through corners is vastly improved and inspires confidence in pushing the car harder
- Control under braking is noticeably improved - car stays very stable and planted even braking from high speeds
- Likewise under acceleration car feels more planted (hard to describe but its like any slack in the car has gone so power is transmitted more efficiently to road)

- Ride comfort feels similar to before but just a bit firmer, there's more feedback from the road surface (things like cats eyes for example feel much more defined when you go over them)
- Only road surface I've found where comfort is noticeable worse is where there's a flat road with undulations in it (this feels more bumpy than on OEM)
- Driven over loads of speed bumps since fitting (the ones in my office car park are huge!) and had no problems with clearance
- I find myself driving in one lower gear than before quite often (probably as it now so easy to deploy the power with confidence - car running approx 300bhp currently)

So in summary a great upgrade and had i known how much it improved the car its the first thing I'd have changed.

Finally took my wife out for her first drive post fitment today and I asked her when we got home had she notified any difference - the answer was no (she'd forgotten I'd had the suspension upgraded) feels as comfortable as always. Result! :)

Nice review Kevin. I was going to go for the clubsport but Mountune didn't have it in stock, so I went for the B12 kit, very similar so I understand. What I did notice was the feeling that the back of the car felt a lot more connected to the front, whereas the OE seemed a little bit wishy-washy

I waited ages for it to come back into stock...eventually phoned and emailed to complain about lack of stock and did then get a reply soon after telling me it was back in stock and I'd better order soon before they were gone again ! (came in a B12 Pro box with some additional Mountune branding on each bit of the kit). I'm assuming there is some difference between the two as loads of places will sell you a B12 Pro kit and stock doesn't seem to be an issue....unless adding the extra stickers is a tricky job ;-)

Sounds good but unless I am mistaken you will have just fitted the standard B12 kit comprising Bilsteins & Eibachs - but paid that bit extra for the stickers & the 'Ford warranty approved' label as per normal Mountune procedure ....................

How much was the 'Mountune' kit by the way??

Not wanting to potentially rub salt in the wound but from Bilstein themselves (without delivery of course from Germany):

And our sponsors JW Racing could do the kit for ÂŁ666.78 before club discount.

Nice review, this set up sounds very tempting!

Does it affect insurance much? I always think of subtle upgrades but then I wonder about insurance hassle.

(Edit: I mean the suspension set up... I imagine the 300bhp would definitely affect it!)
one of my old insurance companies added 50 pounds to my policy for fitting H&R lowering springs to my car,if you plan to modd a lot further,I would recommend specialist insurance companies, there all intercooler friendly!

I've read that the damper rates of the Mountune kit are different to the off-the-shelf B12 kit - so they could well be slightly different, and it wouldn't be unusual for a manufacturer to offer custom spec parts to one tuner.

Ouch. I got my b12 kit sent from germany for 640 euro... :brow:
Stick your head into the wheel arch and get the part number off the sticker on the damper - I'll do the same on the Mountune supplied kit.

I was aware that I might be paying extra just for the name but on the off chance there was a difference I didn't want to chance it - think theres already been some feedback on the price!

Heres the ARB's I have fitted :

Doesn't look like my insurance company added anything extra - already had non standard suspension due to the ARB's (its Adrian Flux) - but it was just before renewal so hard to tell.

No need, just look them up on demon tweeks :p

Bilstein B8 part numbers:

Front left: BLS35-110767
Front right: BLS35-110774
Rears: BLS24-196550

Thats great that the car still feels reasonably comfortable even with the ARBs fitted - Ive got a 24mm fixed whiteline front arb and an elevate 25mm fixed rear to go on my 3 door, worried that itll just make a mess of how the car feels on b-roads which is where i usually get to drive mine

Well this thread went quiet very quickly. :brow:

Did you check yours?

Sorry, forgot about this!

There is a sticker on a damper that says VE3-B077, but it also says 110774 - to me that would suggest they are probably the same item.

However, if I check the ProTechs fitted to my TVR the damper model is the same as the off the shelf unit, but the rates are different.

Not sure we'll ever really know, but it does seem a bit fishy to me. That said, whatever you fit is world's apart from the OEM stuff and is worth the money.
