Fraid so mate the locking nuts fitted to the ST are McGuards and are very secure, the certificate identifying your key would have been in the bag with the key. How much you been quoted to drill out the nuts? (ouch)!

 

You can get a special socket which threads itself onto the nut to remove it...not sure if it will work with the Ford ones though

 

Had you removed the key and lost it in the house or was it still in the car the last time you saw it?
If the latter, we can run through all the likely hiding places.

 

I'm sure that i would have left it in the car. I thought it was either in the boot where the spare wheel would be (if there was one) or in the glove compartment but no. Any other places that you can think of Alb?

 

we have a tool at work which could remove them in about 10 minutes!! are you in the Ipswich area??

you could try calling your local dealer and ask if they have a 'master' set - which most dealers normally have

I've managed to lose the locking wheel nut key that came with the car.
Does anyone know of a way of finding out the key shape/code? The handbook mentions the wheel nut lock certificate but i can't find this. It was possibly in the bag with the key.
When i phoned the dealer they said that they would have to to drill off the original locks and fit new ones. Is this the only solution?

I have just had a similar problem, except I did not lose the key, the one that came with the car did not fit the wheel nuts for whatever reason. (clicky). I took my car to the main dealer and they had a set of master keys. I think most main dealers have a set off these, might be worth ringing a few to find out.

Mine was found in the cup thingy under the centre armrest when I got the car.

 

The dealer has quoted me £75 to get them off and supply a new set so i guess that's my only choice. I'll put it down to experience i think!

 

We had a similar problem in Australia!
Funny thing is, they only have a few patterns for the lock, so we posted pics on our forum and found a match. I borrwed a mate's key to get my locks off and that was that!

Just have a look around and you will see that there are only a few key types, find one that looks similar and it will probably fit!
Check www.fordxr5turbo.com and seach for 'wheel nut key lost' for pics of what i'm talking about.

If you have a look at a few STs up there, you'll probably find one with the same locks as yours, just borrow their key, get your locks off and put a different set back on.

Don't go through the dealer to replace them though, they charge an arm and a leg for a set. (They charge me $190 AU)
Just get an aftermarket set or buy direct from McGuard!

 

Go to a dealer who has a set of master keys and some form of decent customer service - they should be able to work out which key you need and order a new one.
