Hi all!

Recently had my 3" downpipe fitted a week after running a 3" sports cat. The cat made a noticable difference in a good way but I cannot say the same for the downpipe! Running DSCI map by Dreamscience which supposedly will make use of the new downpipe & cat.

As the car hits boost there is now a very audible whooshing noise, it's not like your usual induction noise it's a more sort of hollow/plasticy sound, if that makes sense, more of a SHHHHHH rather than SSSSSSS sound, lower tone than what I'd consider induction noise.

I've also noticed slight loss of low-end torque which I imagine is normal due to less back-pressure BUT the power delivery has also changed from a smooth pull to a jumpy-jerky take off, yet as soon as that turbo kicks in the power delivery is smooth again but I'm faced with this strange whooshing noise!

What are your thoughts? I don't think this is normal? Thought about pulling KAM fuse. Sounds nothing like my mates ST which had full 3" system & induction kit - worth noting mines on standard air box with K&N panel filter, but it almost sounds louder!?

Having second thoughts... :brow:

Short recording uploaded, the noise is deeper in person but I'm just concerned since it's completely new and doesn't sound like any induction noise I've heard from STs before?

exactly what i have experienced in the last two weeks, original cold side boost hose has a split, hardly any power loss though ,just noticeable though,i also only have a panel filter, but the sucking/whooshing noise is in first bit of pedal down at low revs

@A2KLAU I want to hope but can't help thinking it's worse... I've just been for a quick spin, better audio attached.

For me the whooshing noise starts as soon as the turbo kicks in hard and doesn't let off until the end of the power band, and you cannot hear it when revving stationary, you only get it when accelerating, does that sound familiar? At first when I accelerate slowly I can hear the usual whine of the turbo, then hear it start to pull in air, then as it hits all I can hear is ssshhhhhhh. Reading this back it sounds like I'm describing normal turbo noises but it sounds so much worse now since changing the downpipe, before it had a much more consistent noise

I was keeping an eye on the turbo gauge while pulling away from standstill & as the car is jerking trying to move forward, foot holding still, I can see turbo bobbing up & down between 1st & 2nd line on the gauge, as if I'm tapping my foot on the accelerator... But boost is fine when accelerating past that point... Boosting fine any other time for that matter except when pulling away

i can only really hear it when quick shifting but not really going fast,ie when just releasing clutch then on the gas,but only accelerating, and cannot hear it after initial whoosh sound, nothing when just revving as its not under any load to boost..maybe turbo manifold bolt loose..inhave a downpipe and decat and nevr noticed any noise before i developed boost leak split hose..

Are you on the standard intercooler? Sods law this happens when I'm broke and can't afford the big hose/intercooler upgrade, both planned to be done in March! Time to find a stock pipe then to last me a month

Edit: eBay to the rescue! http://ebay.co.uk/itm/262436514782
no,airtec stage 2,yeh i seen a few on e bay,was just curious to see what was charged for n original.

champiano, easy fix..did you fit it yourself?
Nah the garage :censored: it so they fitted it for free, they took bit of the aircon piping out to reach in so I got a free re-gass, plus couple of other bits :lmao:

Just had all belts changed along with a service, front wishbones, 3" downpipe & sports cat (old dp looked a :censored: to remove & cat rusted on both ends), etc so let them have it hehehe

im not surprised the garage removed aircon etc to gain access, its tighter than a submarine door in their.
