Hi all.

I read some posts on here about this. All people seems to recomend 75w90 synthetic oil, usually gl5 type (gl4 is also available), that's what I have in the car since the lsd and clutch were fitted. I did some research now, and found that Ford recomends a specific 75w (not 75w90), in gl4 type, Castrol syntrans fe. It's a very different type of oil. What are your thoughts about this???
I probably will change the oil to the ford recomended type "75w", as the gearbox is too stiff since the last oil change. And will see if this works making the gearbox smoother. A friend just changed the oil in his subaru sti265 for a 75w90 gl4 type, and he says his gearbox is smoother now. Another friend in his leon cupra r225 will do the same, as his car is like mine at the moment with the 75w90 gl5, stiffer than usual.

A ford mechanic told me all of this. I did my own research, and he was right. Checked the autodata in a friend's garage, and an oil webshop. The correct oil for the ford and volvo gearboxes is the 75w, ford specification wss-m2c200-d2. That castrol oil that I said early is specific for this. And is a gl4.
I just bought this oil, and will put it on the car. I hope this can help with the gearbox stiffness problem that I have.

After a long drive today, I can feel the difference. First some relaxed driving to warm the things up. After that, I went faster. The gearbox feeels smoother, really smoother. No placebo efect. The 1st to 2nd gearchange is improved, not perfect but definitely better than before. And the rest of the gears have a smoother feel also. Very happy with the new gearbox oil. I wont use a gl5 75w90 again. The 75w gl4 made a real difference.
