I have to say, the Wifes Kuga has the power tailgate, but it has the kicker option, where you wave your foot under the rear bumper to open and close it, excellent when your hands are full, especially good for girls who dont want to touch the car when its dirty.
My parents Kuga has this also, I was ******* myself watching them both dance around trying to find the 'sweet spot' for it to open up.... doesn't help their balance is shocking, but made my day!

Nice trick to open the hatch but no good for me. :nope:

My ST goes straight in the garage when I get home and if the hatch opens fully it crashes into the up n over door above it !

Being 12 years old now the struts are a bit stiff so it stops and holds at any level I place it. Perfect. :)

I still remember that feeling I had when, without thinking, I switched on the radio in a Honda parked in my garage.

It had an electric aerial that automatically extended when you switched on, and the aerial was located immediately beneath the open garage (up and over) door.

You can imagine what happened next.....

Luckily Im able to open both the cars hatch in the garage, as the roof is plenty high enough, although if the Kuga is parked at the back, the hatch could hit the cupboards on the wall, now that would be a bad day. 😧😁

Ditto!, I was going to get some but then remembered a bit of an embarrassing episode in a multi story in Kendall when I had my Mondy Titanium X Sport and pressed the hatch release whilst having armfulls of shopping.....Hatch went up.....hit the sodding carpark roof. One scuffed spoiler.....as good as they look I think I'll give em a miss!

Cheers Glenn

You do need head room, but then again, you need head room with standard boot struts, it still opens to full extent on its own, so even the standard efforts would make the tailgate hit a roof too.

I fitted the emerald struts as well, about 2 years ago I recon when this thread started, the last couple of months the boot won’t open, it pops but won’t lift on its own, anyone else on here who fitted at the same sort of time having issues yet? Noticed they only have 12 months warranty so no recourse there but I would have expected them to have lasted longer then this!

Nearing two years with mine, still work perfectly, I’m sure if you got onto them, they might resolve your problem, as said in the previous post to yours.

Yeah I will, worth a try but I won’t hold my breath just wondering if I was on my own with issues or since quite a few of us on here fitted them there were any others with problems, it’s not like the car is a daily driver, it goes to Morrisons once a week and maybe the chipper on a Thursday night!! that’s about it so if the boot is opened 3 or 4 times a week I would be surprised

Similar issue here but then I have a delta spoiler riser so the extra weight might be the issue. It's like the springs just don't give it enough of a push to begin with for the struts to then take over and take it the rest of the way.

I ended up putting some thick washers between the spring and the strut so that the spring compresses a little more when the boot closes to give it some extra oomph when the boot pops. Opens fine every time now.

That’s interesting, did it never open without the washers or did it at first and then stop?
At first it opened fine even with the spoiler riser on but then I guess the springs got a bit less springy and struggled to get it started so it was a bit hit and miss.
It seemed to be worst when it was either cold or if the car was parked uphill which I suppose affects the swing of the boot when the springs push off. A couple of washers worth of extra compression (2-3mm) though and it hasn't failed to lift the tailgate since.

I’d definitely be getting onto Emerald, there’s no way they should be playing up, with such little use, I use mine pretty much every day and I’ve had no problems at all, touch wood.

Just fitted some of these struts, excellent quality, easy fit and will come in handy Im sure, admittedly it is stiffer on closing, but that is to be expected, especially when new. If youre feeling really flush, they now do an electric option.
My brother fitted these struts to his mk3 Mondeo and after roughly 10 months the hinges began to distort!

Makes laugh watching people stand their waiting for the powered boots open in car parks, by which time I have opened, loaded closed and getting ready to leave.... whilst they are standing there watching them close again, then checking it...
Except the power boot can be opened before you get to the car and closed while getting in, absolutely no need to check it, it will tell you if it’s not closed, but it alway is 😉
