I fitted some of these last week.

I was a bit scared of shutting the hatch at first as it felt like they reached Their limit with the hatch still open but o got brave and gave it a hearty slam.

Used them a few times this week. Even had the mrs going whoa I didnt know it did that!

I saw these fitted on EvilGT youtube with Lee & Ben. I asked Emerald if they did a Mk2 version, the answer was no. Does anyone know if the Mk3 would fit the Mk2?

 

These struts were a big thing back in the 90s and 2000s when me and my mates were modifying Escorts, Golfs and the like. Lost count of the number of bent hinges and damaged boots.

As I say, me (and several of my mates) got burned years ago.

Emerald may have calculated the load against the mounting points, I don't know - but I wont be fitting them

Theyve come a long way since the eighties, they are supposedly rigorously tested, but I guess time will tell.

 

Had looked at these, but at £90+ posted.... think I'll just use the old arm and lift it up for now.

Makes laugh watching people stand their waiting for the powered boots open in car parks, by which time I have opened, loaded closed and getting ready to leave.... whilst they are standing there watching them close again, then checking it...

 

Except the power boot can be opened before you get to the car and closed while getting in, absolutely no need to check it, it will tell you if it’s not closed, but it alway is 😉

To be fair that includes fitting. I don't think that's unreasonable as they also add a switch to your boot

I have to say, the Wifes Kuga has the power tailgate, but it has the kicker option, where you wave your foot under the rear bumper to open and close it, excellent when your hands are full, especially good for girls who dont want to touch the car when its dirty.

 

I have just fitted the struts to mine & they work a treat. Walk up to the car & press the fob & the boot lifts up nice & swiftly. As you say the boot is a little stiffer to close but it is no issue.

 

I think there great ,bit stiff to shut . The wife moans that she looks a idiot in car park struggling to shut boot

 

I used mine several times today, its great that by the time I arrived at the car, the boot was open and ready.

 

I've had a pair on since early December and they do soften up over time. They still lift the boot easily with a nice steady motion but its easier to close now. Don't know if I've just got used to them but its easy enough to close with one hand now.

 

Good to know, either they have softened, or youve put on some muscle using it, either way its a win win. 😆

My parents Kuga has this also, I was ******* myself watching them both dance around trying to find the 'sweet spot' for it to open up.... doesn't help their balance is shocking, but made my day!

 

😆🤣, I find just a kick under the bumper works better than waving your foot, but that must have been hilarious. 😆

 

Nice trick to open the hatch but no good for me. :nope:

My ST goes straight in the garage when I get home and if the hatch opens fully it crashes into the up n over door above it !

Being 12 years old now the struts are a bit stiff so it stops and holds at any level I place it. Perfect.

 

I still remember that feeling I had when, without thinking, I switched on the radio in a Honda parked in my garage.

It had an electric aerial that automatically extended when you switched on, and the aerial was located immediately beneath the open garage (up and over) door.

You can imagine what happened next.....

 

Luckily Im able to open both the cars hatch in the garage, as the roof is plenty high enough, although if the Kuga is parked at the back, the hatch could hit the cupboards on the wall, now that would be a bad day. 😧😁
