Not ST related but we also have a KA which some lovely person decided to hit with a shopping trolley resulting in a ding on the passenger door...no paint damage but very noticible...call dent devils and they want 90 quid for a 50 pence sized ding so thanks but no thanks...a mate recommends a dent man who works for himself doing small garages ect so I give him a call.
Round he comes this morning in an S reg Escort estate and proceeds with the work.
To cut a long story short hes overdone it resulting in him stretching the metal work and I now have a 6 inch crease that sticks outwards...he has only charged me 20 quid but what a mess...if he couldnt do it in the first place he shouldnt have started it.
Off he goes and then I get in the car and discover hes
up some of the door trim by using a screw driver to prise it off and has scratched the interior paintwork.

After this experience I would rather pay the extra and get a reputable company to sort it out...now booked in with a bodyshop!

ive done the exact same thing mate, i had an 8 month old fiesta st - my pride and joy! i reversed into a van and creased the rear quarter and scratched the corner of the bumper etc.. was well annoyed, i thought it would be a good idea to get chipsaway to do it as they were cheap, was only £200 so thought bargain

bloke turns up makes a start i thought woooo its gunna be back to normal - more fool me. paint finish was shocking, he couldnt get the crease entirely out, the filler wasnt level and he swirled to
the whole rear quarter with his polisher (took alot of care from me to keep the whole car swirl free!).

So i bit the bullet and took it to a proper bodyshop to get done costing another £400 on top of what i already paid and it was back to showroom finish.

Moral of the story is in the thread title!

If the ST ever needs any work doing - im not cutting any corners.

some dent guys are really good, others are shocking, as you say.

the fact is you're not always gonna get the best just by paying top whack or going with a branded company. Long and short of it is though, you could have gone back to a reputable company and demanded they put right what he damaged.

It's not unknown for a reputable workshop to subcontract the work to "dent devil" or similar so you can't always be sure of what you're getting.

Surely when using guy's such as Dent Mater / Chipsaway they must have some type of insurance where you could put in a claim ?

I know it's a franchise set up but they still must have a head office and some kind of "Customer Service" ?

yeh you will get what you pay forwith the dents as it really is a skill. i reccomend someone round by me and use him all the time on customers cars.he is the best ive seen. he will have ago and explaine before hand if he can get it all out or not ect and if he says he can and doesnt manage it he will not charge.i own a chipsaway business and have done this side of work for many years now. they do have some dodgy people out there and you are best by finding out if anyone has used them and if there reccomended. 95% of people are happy with the work off them but sometimes a job will not go 100% perfect which you have to expect when your painting outside on your drive and paying half the price of a bodyshop. BUT if your not happy with the job.why have u paid for it. you should have explained the damage hasnt gone. its what id expect off a customer if id done a job like that.grayQUOTE(kosmo @ 30 Dec 2009, 06:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Thats why I always suggest ringing your dealer, see who they usealot of them use chipsaway or other companys but as you say at least you will kow if there anygood. ive manage to prove my self to 4 dealerships by me and 2 are fords.im always there painting brand new cars before the customers pick them up. bad isnt it really

call him up. explain/show him its not gone. thats what you HAVE paid him for and the other damage. tell him he pays for the damage or you WILL take it to a small claims court.
its crazy what some people get away with and give the others a bad name.

Trust me matey Im a
when it comes to peeps getting away with things,Im relentless and never give up but this guy is in his late 60s and I only paid him 20 quid.

The interior handle he scratched Ive just got brand new from Ford for 5 quid plus the scratch he put on the interior paint has been covered by a little transfer of MR Noisey which actually looks quite cool so lesson learned really.

If Id of seen the interior damage he never wouldve got paid but there you go.

Dent Devil`s are absolutely brilliant, I have used them a couple of times on my van and the wifes car and you cannot see where the dent was no matter how hard you look

but yet again its always down to the person doing the job. as its a franchise and quite expesive to get into you do tend to get the "better" guys with them.
but funny enough the guy i use is from dent devils too.
