Why Are Ford Trying To Rip Me Off!!

701 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Mazza3k
Just rang the stealers to ask for a price for a CV Joint to which I am told that I can't just buy the CV Joint I have to buy the WHOLE F
ING DRIVESHAFT!! What the hell?? And they want over £400 for it (Drivers side). I have a perfectly good driveshaft but now I have to buy a whole new one just for the joint. Can't some one please enlighten me to their reasoning for this because frankly I find it a whole load of bull!

Main dealers tend to only sell complete drive shafts.

Remember, dealers can only supply what the manufacturer gives them.

If you contact your local motor factor they should be able to help you out with an outer cv joint on its own.
If Ford only supply the whole shaft then the dealer can only supply you that, its pretty common place now on some cars. Same with wheel bearings, on new Focus and Mondeos you have to buy a whole hub assembly.
You could always PM tony, he can double check the available parts for you.
If you can buy the part else why not sell it at the dealers too, its just seems silly to me.

Cheers Kosmo but at the moment i'm not sure if it the inner or the outer CV joint as yet, I just wanted to gauge how it might cost me.

Because the parts available elsewhere are non-genuine parts, dealers can only sell genuine ford parts (except in rare cases and if they are marked up as non-genuine) so if Ford don't make them they cannot sell them!

Of course Ford "should" make them, but they don't unfortunately so were all stuck and if we want genuine we have to buy whatever they supply.

read somewhere that the focus diesel uses the same driveshafts! maybe fraud list a cv joint for the diesel? if not, im sure a diesel driveshaft would be more plentfull at your local scrappy. does any one out there know if this is true or not?

I would love to find out if that was true, i'm looking around at the moment for a second hand as i just don't have £500 for a brand spanky new one.

I am pretty certain the ST driveshafts are unique. Best bet is a scrappy/ebay to find a cheap one!
Just rang TLC Ford in Wolverhampton, and bought the DS for £115 including postage.

Found them through this : Clicky and it works for most types of cars

Really good little web site, just put the parts your after in and it searches for the best quotes!! Happy Days. Just saved me over £400

) and rang Vauxhall to get the part and they said you have to buy the complete gear linkage (£80). had a look on Ebay and found the silver part for £10

It is second hand yes, I'm not sure what the warranty is exactly but it is covered. I've had a good look at the DS and the CV joints and all looks in really good nick, obviously theres no real way of telling until its on the car, it was a bit of a rush to find a part and buy it before christmas and i need to get it fitted between now and this friday comming.
