White Substance In Oil Filler Cap

Hi there, there is some white substance in the oil filler cap on my st. Ive cleaned it all out once, and it has returned again, but there is more now. The coolent still looks red but not as bright as it use to be.

So am i right in feering that the head gasket is on its way out, or could it be something else? Also i think the engine is running fine, or that could be because im use to it.

At this time of the year the most likely cause is condensation build up in the cam cover which combines with oil and makes the white gungey emulsion. I bet you dont do any long journeys in your car, as getting the engine up to temperature drives all the condensation out and breaks the emulsion. Nothing to worry about, just clean it out periodically and make sure you give the car a good run occasionally. Nothing much to worry about unless the "gunge" appears in the sump too and the dipstick...
as mbaker said, take it for a good blast then have a look, my daughters fiesta is terrible for it as she only does 3 miles to work and back everyday
^^^ what they said. It's emulsified oil and a product of short journeys when the engine doesn't get upto op temp.
As someone who just had his head gasket go and needed a new engine, then i really think it would be best to go to a good quality garage to get it checked just in case. Because if it is that and you get it done strait away you'll only need a new head, leave it and you'll need a whole new block. . .£4500 +. Can't hurt to get looked at.

I think it sounds fine, just check the dipstick and give everything a clean.

When the head gasket goes (not specifically the ST but seen on other cars) the car overheats all the time.
Nothing to worry about, unless there is some really pervy bloke near where you live who has an obsession for 5 pot engines.......
If the coolant level is ok and no misfires when cold, i would think its fine.
should be fine, i got a shock the first time i noticed it, but i only do pretty short journeys durin the week, once its had a blast durin the weekend it clears itself. Just keep an eye on ur fluid levels, if ur drinking coolant you have a problem!
mines the same, dont panic unless u get other symptoms
