Evening all,

Driving doen to brighton and given it some as i was late with ESP off. Got in to slow traffic and looked down to see the ESP button off and the dash saying ESP System Fault.. Started and stopped the the car with no affect then the ECU light came on orange..

Got home and connected my ScanTools ODB reader to find a list of error codes! Ive tried to clear them, however they reapper on start, however no ECU light as there in pending sate but the ESP light comes back on.

List of faults:

P0102 - Mass or Volume Air Flow A Circut Low $7E8
P0458 - Evaporative System Purge Control Valve Circut Low $7E8
P0079 - Exhaust Valve Control Citcut Low (Bank1) $7E8
P0076 - Intake Valve Control Circut Low (Bank1) $7E8
P0245 - Turbocharger/Supercharger Wastegate Solenoid A Low $7E8

Are these all on the same loop or circut?

I can imagin 1 or 2 errors but 5 in 1 go.. something has to be connected with all of these.

Dont mind getting ym hands dirty as was always under the VTS, just never seem so many codes in 1 go!

|Any thoughts are welcome as to where to start.

i would clear them amd scan again next week ?? see waht re appers ? i sure i read some think about flat ish battery causing a load of faults ! is it spining over fast ?

i prob would put ya battery on charge would not harm ?

ill pop the batt of tomorrow and see if a ECU reset clears the faults.

Batt is fine, cars a 57 plate and there is a good turn over, ill grab my muliti but 99% sure its not that.

Nope car is idling fine and runs fine, just a little jacking in power.. did notice the other day it was idling a little bad, but i think she needs a service, just wating on ford.

Bah all ganging up on me

Ill swap out the batt in the morning as its easier to get to

That alternator looks like its a pain to get to, however im sure i can meter it.

Is there a manual for the ST? not sure if haynes have done one, from what i have read the answer is no.

I dont think there is a specific Haynes manual for the ST but i think the general Focus one has some info in it! Youre best off getting the battery and alternator tested by somewhere with the proper diagnostic equipment! Metering it with a multimeter wont show up all the problems that can be occuring!

The joys of owning an ST!

ill have a lookie at the focus manual, however haynes site says it does not cover the 2.5l. Ah going in blind, love it

ill see what the lads at the local garage are doing, dont really wanna take it to ford as its going to cost a bomb, having said that a diag should not be to bad.

thank u kindly x

Noooooooooooooo Ford are the last place you want to go! Find a good independant that are up on electrics! There are some wonderful meters now that can tell you exactly what the problem might be but they are expensive! The alternators are a bit of a weak point on the ST too! When they go ****y you get all sorts of weird errors cropping up

Yeah i do try and keep it away from Ford to be fair, going from the 1.6 VTS to this is a little more complex and inaccessable!

The Batt does seem strong, not showing any signs of a voltage problem like i would expect, however im again basing that on my years of saxo experance.

I assume the system faults are preventing the AC from working as well due to the extra load and stress on the engine ?

What would you put your money on?

Another update,

Took it in to ford and spoke with a really good bloke, ran it over there diag machine, and 1 good thing, I know why my windscreen sensors don't work

He said it looks like its a wiring on earth fault, so... Out comes the sockets again. He showed me where to look

Ok, so it seems that this ST has had a possible earthing fault before, as 2 of the contacts has been cleaned and copper greased before, I cleaned up another 2, but it's made no difference.

The wiring over the engine block looks ok.

All the connections in the to ABS, and ESP unit are good.

I've not checked the ECU yet.

The ford diag also said the AC clutch unit was bad, so that's a grand total of 7 "random" faults.

They all clear OK, and key to position 2 still shows them as ok, it's only when you start the car.

Now, the diag says the MAF is bad, and given its above the ECU, I was going to assume the wiring loom for that was direct to the ECU, so I can follow it and test.

Has anyone got ANY ideas?? I'm assume it's something central as its affecting so many things but. Have. Idea what.

Was thinking of contacting the old ford garage that dealt with her and asking if they have any notes on this happening before.

Ok,

Fault found by myself rather than Ford

Guys there are great as they printed of loads of circut digs for me

It was the sensor on the oil filter housing (see attached) Not quite sure what it does.. thinking of getting a new housing or doing a good repair..

on a side note, that F*ing air box is a nightmare to get out !!! Might replace it but ive no idea with what.. any advise (looking to go to stage 3 in the next few months)

Hey mate,

Thank you for your kind words

Well it's been a week now and all seems well in ST land

had the drive shaft baring done, however they found a leak with the high pressure PAS pipe. So will need to get that sorted next! Ten it's due for a huge service.

Might have to live with stage 2 instead of stage 3 for e short term
