The Milestone 200,000 Miles Reached on the Original Clutch

Well folks as the title states, I have reached the milestone 200,000 miles today. Still on the original clutch. Since my last word of encouragement write up what has happened?

The diaphragm for in the oil cooler went and I replaced the full unit with the new updated one from Fords. I'm afraid I had to replace a perfectly good timing belt, water pump, tensioner and auxiliary belts. Effectively putting me on my third timing belt kit. At my last timing belt change, there was a slight weep from the camshaft seals. I provided the new seals and end caps, sensor bolts and ask my garage to change them at the same time as the belts.

They gave them back to me stating it was just a slight weep and to keep an eye on it. Well about 20K or so later it was more that a weep and it was bugging me so I asked the garage again to change them and fix the leak and they agreed they should have done it the first time when asked. I bought another new set of belts, water pump, tensioner and the main spring-loaded tensioner and the job was done perfectly. I did not pay much for the labour. All the water hoses are changed to silicone with just the header tank left to replace. The alloys need a refurb and I am looking for a same day turnaround. Any recommendation?

The brake lines rubber to braided steel are also on the cards to do.

I was a bit gutted to get a mot advisory last month as the oil from the leak was not cleaned out before the mot so the mot inspector thought there was a leak. But apart from that all is good.

That is it, till the next time whenever that is. As I have said previously, look after your ST and you will have years of pleasure. There's a couple of pics including what my two hundred thousand miles engine bay look like. As someone said I have had my monies worth already and i think i'm now on bonus.

Cheers till next time.

Congrats Bruva, thats some going. 👍🏻
Well it is a Volvo that holds the world mileage record at over three million, so youve got the right engine, but youve got a few miles to go yet. 😁

Wow that's impressive! My MK2 had 140,000 or so miles when I sold it on the original clutch and I thought that was good...but I bow down to your amazing 200,000 miles.

Did you know you have driven your ST about 85% of the way to the moon?
the other 15% will take me a decade so don't think ill get there

You could have bought a rocket the with the the amount you've spent on fuel to get to 200k

I'd be dead before my car ever reached 200K miles

It would also be at least 50 years old!
Wonder if an Eco boost Would make it this far!

Don't see why not.

Where I'd worry about longevity is with the new generation of small capacity, three cylinder, highly stressed engines.
Awesome strong those first ST clutches ! :yep:

I'm still on the original one on my 2008 FL car and done 55k - its not so strong but its coped with being remapped and driven hard for 44k miles !

You must have a kind clutch foot mate....I try not to snap mine from a standing start, I take off gently and then let the big bad 5 and its turbo slingshot me....lol

A bit of mechanical sympathy and the std clutch has done me proud.

I dont just floor the gas, I normally change down and use the power. And it can take 3 or 4 flat-out blasts without slipping, which is usually all I need in a half-hour run.

Plus my usual map is DS Race which is powerful but pretty smooth. :yep:
