Is it me or is text speak becoming more and more prevalent on this forum?

I just wondered what members views are on it within this forum? We're not restricted to 160 characters in posts after all…

I'm only a regular viewer/contributer to four car forums and all have rules and systems in place to prevent it; ranging from warnings to posts being deleted.

Being an old fart it is confusing and annoying at times, but so are most things.

Sadly it isnt just this forum that is suffering from "chav attack" I find it somewhat annoying even if i get it in a text message

Its always pretty much been a rule that we don't accept txt speak persay on the forums.

If a post is particularly unreadable then it will be edited / delete without warning. Usually the staff member doing so will put a reason as to why the post was edited and send that member a PM explaining why their post was edited by a Moderator.

If anyone thinks a post that has been made strays outwith the forum rules, then hit the report button on the left hand side of the screen underneath that person's avatar. All Reports are held privately.

Cheers

Agree with Storm, some forums are riddled with it! Being relatively young myself and having grown up with it I would have thought it easy to read, but it gets to a certain point when I have to keep reading over the same sentence to try and work out what the hell it means! Stuff like 'hu' instead of 'who'? Is it really worth dropping one letter to save effort and make it look
in the process?

Rant over

Standard abbreviations are ok, for example I would have no issue with 'iirc', 'iyswim', 'imo' etc ('If I recall correctly', 'if you see what I mean' and 'in my opinion'). These are used by people across the internet and are a form of shorthand.

What really boils my
is lazy chav speak, eg 'wot' instead of 'what', 'gr8' instead of 'great'. It doesn't actually save any time to chav-speak. Furthermore, someone seeing me use 'iirc' will see it in the greater context of the post, and will realise that I am not a semi-literate window-licker.

Perhaps there is hope for this place yet. Next step; the re-introduction of banter.

I agree with this, they are common used expressions throughout the interweb. wtf is 'iyswim'?
