Stupid Steering Column Contols!!!

398 Views 10 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Pete
Is it just me, or does anyone else have an issue with the position of the steering wheel stereo controls? Admittedly I'm quite tall at 6'3" but even so, it seems Ford have found the worst place possible to place it. Every gear change my left knee clips the bottom of it.

Has anyone moved or removed it?

Cheers

if you mean the raidio button stalk, it just 'clips' into the steering column, and can be pulled off.
Never knew that! Personally I think the stalk is great, perfect position. If you drive some other cars with a similar setup you will realise how good the build quality is on the st, very solid.

I agree, it is better on the ST than many other cars - but with the drivers seat high driving position combined with 6'3" driver, I am not overly surprised you have clip it. Good result if it just clips off

I think you might need to remove the trim on the underside of the steering column, to get at the clips.... But, it's definately a sererate part.

I'm 6'5" and don't have an issue with the controls...

You must have a crazy driving poistion, as the others have said, have you tried adjusting the steering column?
+1 I'm 6"4 and no problems, are you sat with the steering wheel pressing against your chest?

I was told by a track day driving instructor the steering wheel should be almost at full stretch if your sat back.
Agree with the above, I'm 6"6 and have no problem at all with the stalk being in the way?!

Have you tried the lever on the seat (to the left of the bar that moves the seat backwards and forewards) which lowers the bottom part closer to the floor? That may help?
