St's Performance In This Weather (snow & Ice)

Hi All...

Just wanted to say... this is the first year Ive had to drive the ST in snow and Ice and I'm very impressed!

Other than letting a little air out of the tires Ive made no other changes and she drives like a dream. I watched several other cars, Namely a brand new Civic try to move and give up after spinning continuously. After which I just drove round him.

The traction control/ESP keeps the power going at the front and she just seems to love this weather.

Who needs a 4x4 lol.

Er me, I had to get pushed up a very slight incline in a pub car park earlier.

The ESP does get very excited though, can be a pain haha
haha... maybe the trick is to let your front tires down a bit then. Oh... and I took off my DSCi just for now as there was no way on earth I could put down that power lol.

Why didnt they make the RS in 4 wheel drive... that would have been awsome lol

I have not had mine out in the snow yet...but the ESP must surely help!

Even some of the main roads are really bad here, usually the bus routes are fine but not this time

I didn't see my ESP light come on when I had 2 tank slappers last night on the way home from a xmas do. So dunno if it helped me! haha Damn frozen stream mid corners!

What map you using now Paul?
Well ive just got back from work at Aldbrough where it was minus 10 celcius. The roads were awful but the ST just kept powering through. Lost the back end twice and managed to catch it (was moving very slowly) We got sent home because there was no water it all froze haha
We were on the M25 last night and I acclerated to get past the gritting truck and the front wheels spun in 6th gear!!

But.. its held up well in the weather and I am well impressed

The car drives like a coo in this weather, doesnt help that i just checked the front tyres and there is only 2mm on them, gonna have to treat it to some rubber for xmas..
(The car will get a better xmas present than me)

You are supposed to turn the ESP off in snowy/icy conditions. If you don't believe me it is in the handbook.

I think the reason for this is that as well as limiting traction to the front wheels when under power, it also applies braking to any of the wheels in certain circumstances and in icy conditions it is best not to have a brake applied (especially a rear brake) unexpectedly.

Yeah thats true although i prefer it on in these conditions as i find it easier to keep under control. I usually hate the ESP with a passion

Do most of you change the cars map then for the winter?
Try Performance + eaiser on the ice/snow, and lots of pops and bangs from the exhaust!
The ST really isnt great in snow - its all down to the tyres really and I've got horrible Nankangs as fitted by the previous owner
I always drive with ESP/any traction control off in the snow. Just back from the Highlands in my gf's diesel Punto Sporting and it was better than the ST even with Potenzas on it. If the weather was to continue like this id get winter tyres, the A9 was chaos today!
