1208 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  killer10971
got keyless entry and its being a pain in the **** to start lately push fob on the ignition ,dip clutch theres a click from the steering column and i cant get the steering lock off after a fight it gets past the lock ,but after this its fine all day until its been left for a while

i took it to ford and they looked at it and "did a software update" car smelt of wd40
after ,im tempted to do it again but with a lubricant rather than a degreaser

i took off the top cowling to see if i could get to the ignition mech but dont want to go too far as its still under warranty

any suggestions

Maybe obvious but have you tried giving the steering wheel a wiggle before trying to release the steering lock?

It's not unknown in some cases for a side-load to build up on the steering column lock solenoid from the resistance/drag of the tyres against the road surface, through the rack into the column itself and this puts pressure on the lock solenoid. Same as with a mechanical version where the wheel sometimes needs moving slightly before the lock will release.
yep

tried to take the stress off the lock before trying to start it ,worse first thing in the morning and once its started its fine the rest of the day

cheers for the reply
