Squeeking Brakes

180 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  rob225
I got a problem with my ST, my brakes are squeeking sounds like its coming from the front.

Dealer had told me they are going to charge me to look at it!

Its a 08 ST 22k miles, and the pads look ok (about 6 - 8 mm on the front pads)

Is it anything to worrie about?

Are these the standard pads and from new?

Is the noise constant or only under braking?
yes they are standard brakes from new, and only under braking
This can occur from time to time on perfectly normal operating break systems.
There is some debate over the exact cause, but one point is that it is the pads resonating in the callipers.
A strip and clean of callipers with plenty copper slip on contact points(obviously avoiding face of disc and pads) can solve the problem.
Filling a slight chamfer on leading edge of pads, may also help.

Lol, exactly as above, you need to check the inside pad as well, just cos the outside pad is fine doesnt mean the otherone isnt. Chuck some copper slip behind them and should solve it.
As mentioned above, as long as your pads are sound inside and outside of disc, and brakes operating efficiently, then squealing brakes are usually just an annoyance.
Unless you are sure of yourself, then I would not go messing about removing callipers. No mates around that can lend a hand?

If you have any doubts get them checked by a mechanic. Better safe than sorry.
Does not have to be a main dealer. Simple enough job for any local garage with decent rep. Might work out few quid cheaper than main dealer.
thats funny coz my 08 with 22k is also making squeeky noises but from the back brakes and it drives me nuts, nothing worse than pulling up in a clean car and all u hear is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
.but only under light braking.I will try the copper compound and let u if the noise stops

this is the same, only light braking! (think its the front but could be the rear LOL)

If its hard braking there ok!

Have no worrie there is a problem with them as they work VERY well!
