I know that the wrong speed rating of your tyres can invalidate your insurance.. so what is the ford recommended speed rating?

thanks

I'd imagine it's Z, the highest one, which I think is up to about 170/180mph. (Or do W and Y fall into this category also?) Or I could be completely wrong

strangely both W & Y are higher rated than Z

Am i right that the st comes from ford with continental sport contact 2's fitted? if so i am ok with a W rated tyre cos the contis are Z

Bit odd that! Yup it comes with Conti Sport Contact 2's as standard

mine are ZR rated, and these are the goodyear excellence supplied on the car when new, that means 149mph
I'm mega confused now then
Mine has got Goodyear Excellence on but I thought they had been put on by the previous owner cos I've never heard anyone ever say that the car comes with these on from new
Only thing is, I could have sworn they were W rated. I'd go and check but it's -6 outside!

It becomes a bit more complicated for 'ZR' rated tyres.
The 'ZR' denotes the tyres are rated to at least 149mph and possibly more. There is usually another letter after the load index that gives the specific rating, but this is not always stated ion the tyre. Some tyres you will need to look up the specific speed rating, all you will know by looking at tyre is that it is capable of speeds of 149 and above.

example: 225/40 ZR18 92Y

The 'ZR' denotes they are capable of 149mph and possibly above.
The 'Y' after the load denotes they are tested to speeds of 186mph.
