its a tricky one i'll give you that, my grandmother just turned 80 and she still drives. Shes one of those you wouldnt really know she was 80 as she quite active etc but i have to say in the last 5 years her driving skills are a bit more ropey(but safe) then they use to be. I think after 75 you should be restested every 3 years but perhaps not to the same level as someone trying to pass there first test.

I agree with Russeh that the introduction of testing every few years once you reach a certain age (let's say 70) would be good. If you can pass then crack on. There is nothing that indicates that once you reach a certain age you should automatically have your licence revoked - my late grandfather lost his left eye at age 11 and was a perfectly safe driver until his licence was revoked due to epilepsy.

The thing is everyone is different, i know some 30 somthings that should not be on the road, wont drive on motorways and have the spatial awareness of a blind monkey
