Hi all, been lurking around looking at upgrading to an ST for a while now, but ha a budget of 10k inc trade in for my old trusty foci, and not really been able to find many till recently. So heres to the questions bit!

I have seen it at an independant dealer, an ST2 3DR in PB, with a few upgrades. It has side stripes, mud flaps, reverse parking sensors, privacy tints (not sure if aftermarket or not), painted calipers and climate control, if this is an upgrade for st2?.. Its an 06 reg MV06*** in sheffield
I had a quick look and test drive, up for 10,995.

Think it had a member sticker in the windscreen, passenger side top

Only problem is when checking the reg, nowhere can find it, insurance companies dont have it registered, and the online paid checks cant find any info on it either, now the dealer said he has only had it a few days, could it have come off a private plate or something, or something more scinister do you reckon? i checked the windscreen VIN against the stickers on door sides and they matched, seemed well looked after etc, FSH 1 owner/

Obviously i found this out once i got home after the viewing...
Any advise? im going to ring once they open again and ask the sales guy, but also wondered if it was someone on here;s ex -car?? might be able to shed some light?

Have a look at the V5..? Check registration, VIN, MOT of the car make sure it all matches. Have they/you ran an HPI check, registration still not recognised?

At least it doesn't start LN06 ***

yes im sure can check v5 against the car etc, but only found this out after i left to check the details, as its sunday they closed early etc,

thanks for the advise tho. Think its a good deal then for model, year and extras, if the reg dvla thing is just a red herring that is!! been offered 2k for my 2003 foci mp3 60k miles

hi mate i have just seen that

on there website,if you are dealing with steve the sales guy there he is sound as a pound mate ive known him years,just ask him for a quick print out of the hpi check im sure he wont mind,hope you get it it looks awesome,john

thanks for that mate, it was steve, even let me go out in it on my own for a test which was nice, it did drive spot on so im seriously thinking about purchasing.

You done deals from there before then and can reommend? My last foci been trouble free since new so hoping for nearly the same with a little, erm no a lot more power to go with it. Only thing current one has cost me except normal runnig pads, tyres etc is 2 bulbs, but she's getting an old girl now and as im gettin older i can finally afford insurance on some descent ladies

First thing :welcome:to the club.

Just be careful mate.

Spend a bit off time looking in the cars history if insurances companies can't find it.

It is probably ok but it is still better to check.

If you know the VIN from the chassis, windows and V5, then you can check it here against Ford's database --> http://www.etis.ford.com/

You will need to register (free), and then you can run a query against the VIN.

You can check that the spec of the car matches that which you have seen. In addition, the ETIS system should also tell you the first registration number that the car wore - which in turn may help you with HPI, insurance checks etc...

PS --> Should you buy, don't forget to join up as an owner member. The above is just a taster of all the helpful information contained within the site. It'll be the best £10 you'll ever spend on your car.

thanks for all the advice guys, decided aginst this one in the end, something just didnt feel quite "right" and then ended up working all xmas till now and it sold within a few days. so as a make up present for missing most of xmas just found an EO st2 same miles and price, minus parking sensors, but lucky me i can park just about anythign anywhere (no i dont use the bumpers!) so in the process of purchasing, deposit down.

just have to say bye bye to my foci mp3 now..

It has probably come off a private plate. At first i could not find any info on mine. Then the service guy at dealership used the chasis number. Turns out it had been on a private plate from new and had only just gone onto the new plate issued by DVLA

yes i have also heard the EO ones are faster

just got a week to wait till i can pick it up as having my private reg plate transferred.
cant believe i got same mpg on my test drive in the ST then i regularly do in my current 1.8!! Cant wait!

oh yeah and i posted in the general discussion about a stereo question regarding sony unit, but they moved it to an owner member section which i cant view, but people are responding to, so sorry for looking like a plank! going to become a full member but only once i taken delivery of the car
