I had the same problem of the reversing light not working. Took the bulb out thinking it had blown and it was fine. The holder looked ok and had no corrosion. When I put it back in, it started working soon after.
There are various post on here about a temperamental connecter causing quite a few issues which is in the area of the gearbox. Somewhere under the battery.
Sorry to be vague on its location, but after it started working again, i decided to leave it alone.

I've just has a similar problem recently with reverse light and parking sensor not working.

Found out that it must be due to a switch somewhere near the gear lever as the light and sensor work when I'm holding on to the gearstick and pushing it over as far to the right as it'll go!! Then when I let go of the stick they're not working again!

I'm just guessing that it's a switch but it's on it's way back to Ford anyway!!
