Hi everyone, not been on here for a while

Have spent a few hours going through old threads and searching but not found exactly what I'm after, also it seems things have changed since a lot of these threads were fresh (e.g. Bluefin under new ownership?)

I'm looking for a stage 1 equivalent remap, ideally I want a pro to load it for me, but I don't want to have to travel for hours from London. A lot of the tuners are up north I've noticed.

I keep reading Collins are still a really good option, and I see they have some "dealers" within an hour or two from me, but do they just ship out the iflash that you then have to do yourself or will one of the dealers do it in person? A) I don't have a windows laptop which you seem to need and B) I'm nervous of bricking my ECU, first time doing anything like this

Other options are:
REVO - same question, is it done in person? If so what is the map like? Anyone using it or used it recently?
Bluefin - they've got £100 off atm so the map + handset is about £370, but I heard they've changed hands, is it still good?
OCM / OC Motorsport in Essex - driveable from me, workshop fitted and a good price £289, and they reckon it's good for about 280bhp. They look like a Ford specialist but has anyone used them/used this map? Any good? Any issues?
COBB looks really good but very expensive, and also seems to be another DIY at home
Dreamscience look really reputable and a proper Ford specialist, but would be DIY as their workshop is way too far
Pumaspeed looks good too but also way too far unfortunately.

I think I'm between Collins if I can get it workshop fitted, REVO, Bluefin or OCM.

Any thoughts/feedback/suggestions?

Thanks in advance
Mark

I am running Collins CP2v2 so about 315bhp or so & it is spot on. No issues. Hence they are well recommended by me. To be honest loading up a new map is very easy these days. It really is a case of simply plug & play into your OBD port! With certain other 'tuners' on your list just be careful that their maps will only work with all their own bolt ons, if their mk3 maps are like their mk2 maps they will eat your clutch very quickly, and then they will deny ever having touched your car!

Collins on the other hand are nothing like that! I live near to other tuners on your list - yet I chose to drive 1.5 hours to go to Collins - says it all really!

MSD although in Blackpool are reputable and come well recommended, and have an uncomplicated method of supplying maps, so the lack of a Windows laptop isn't necessarily a problem. As @NickFST3 says, loading new maps via the ODB is very straightforward nowadays, it's a well trodden path, so don't be daunted by undertaking that yourself, the products are designed to be user friendly (they wouldn't sell many otherwise). Have a perusal at the MSD options, there may be something to suit your requirements. However, (and apologies to all for repeatedly eulogising about them) but my first and foremost recommendation is to get a custom map from Sabre at Castle Combe SN14 7HD, yes you have to take the vehicle to them, but you'll definitely reap the benefits (Leighton is well known in the RS/ST community and has an enviable reputation for his skill and expertise regarding tuning matters). There's no denying that flash maps from reputable company's (e.g. Collins, Dreamscience) perform satisfactorily, and many will attest to that fact, but a bespoke 'live' map which takes account of your individual vehicles particular characteristics is always going to be superior to an 'off the shelf' product. Cost considerations may be a factor, but bespoke tuning is not as expensive as one may think. TRS in Leamington Spa are held in high regard by other forum members too (although I have no personal experience of them).

Amber Performance are in Luton - about 5 mins off M1 j11. They used to do maps from stage 1 up and I've got their stage 3 and am very happy with it. Worth asking what they have to see if that suits you. They are ST savvy as well as other models and makes. They used to have a 750bhp Skyline R34 IIRC.

OK that's really useful thanks, OC Motorsport use the MSD from what I can work out, there are mentions of them on their website and their stages match MSD. I think I'm leaning to them, especially as I can pay a bit extra and get a before/after dyno read, plus fit a couple other bits while I'm there.

Still open to any further thoughts of course!

If you’re close enough to drive to South Woodham, then you must be close enough to drive to Basildon, so if you want me to give you a quick drive in my CP320 car then let me know…

PS I’m 62, so I’m not a youngster trying to impress with my driving skills, or lack thereof, and haven’t crashed for at least a year 😊

Might just take you up on that! I'm about 60 miles/90 mins away so it's not close, but closer than most tuners. So if you're free when I head that way... will hit you up!

My ST is bone stock at the moment so just looking for a stage 1 for the time being but would love to see what these cars are capable of.

Cheers
