Quickshift help needed

1127 Views 19 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  macca2017
I've fitted my new quckshift and also the aluminum cable ends. Reset it in 4th and everything seemed fine initially. A rapid gear change from 2nd to 3rd and the lever extended beyond the quckshift range back to almost its original position.... Anyone experienced this or any ideas? It seems I can 'force' it beyond 1st, 3rd and 5th?

I think I may have overtightened the new aluminium cable bushings. I've ease them off slightly and it's made a difference...
It's definitely better.....
I'm going to change the bushes at the gearstick end as well....
Okay, when I have time tomorrow I'm going to refit the original shifter back on to see what it's like with the aluminum bushings.

The effort it is taking to pull it out of gear completely negates any benefit from the shorter shift but having done the bushes and the quickshift at the same time I'm not sure what the issue is....so far it could be...

The quickshift

The cable bushes screwed on too tight (I'll loosen them and apply more grease tomorrow)

The slight rise in height of the cables (yes I've done the additional washers under the boost pipe)

I believe the mountune quickshift places the cable at the correct height and doesn't require the washer trick on the boost pipe so that may be the route I end up going down. In which case there will be a pumaspeed quickshift for sale....
Ok, came out of work and car is now stuck in first, no gear change and only a forward and back movement on the gearstick. Clutch is fine......
It did 😭. I've stripped gearbox side down and can free it for full selection. If I move into reverse, 1st,3rd or 5th it stays in the gear so I'm thinking snapped or detached cable at the gearstick side..... 🤬
The culprit..... new cable needed. May as well put the solid bushings on this end whilst it's stripped...

Nope, that's the modifying game..... pumaspeed shifter is getting changed for the mountune shifter which retains stock height for cable attachment so no issue with the boost pipe. The garage can fit the solid bracket bushings at the same time as new cables....
The Pumaspeed Quickshift lasted less than 24hrs in my diesel. I decided that doing a hill start without 1st, 3rd and 5th with traffic behind me wasnt something I was prepared to live with. Fitted the solid ends to the gearbox end bushes instead.
That's why I'm preparing for the new cables with the mountune quckshift which retains the standard cable attachment height. Not sure why other companies don't maintain this as standard, should be easy if it's cad from billet..... Live and learn...
