Quick Question To Anyone With Factory H/u And Sub!

179 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  DaveCHCI
Hi all

Thinking about adding a sub to my st using those splitters that splice into the rear speakers. Just wondering though, you are supposed to turn the bass off on the headunit to the speakers, so they don't distort. However when doing this, surely the sub won't work will it as the low pass filter isn't receiveing the low frequencies it needs?

All other systems I've installed have used dedicated sub-outs from the headunit. Is this right, or am I missing something?

Cheers

Ditch the standard HU mate, save yourself a lot of trouble and massively improve the sound from your sub AND the standard speakers

I have my Sony headunit with my fli sub, and i think it sounds quite good, i dont like stupidly booming bass but just enough to compliment to sound. In reply to your question, i have a builtin amp on my sub, i have the dial on the sub turned half way and then i use the bass control through the HU to "tweak" the sound. Hope this helps, any more help just ask.

Thanks for the replies guys! Ditching the standard headunit isn't an option i'm afraid as its the touch screen bluetooth sat nav jobber with all the heating controls built into it!

I'm thinking about possibly amping up the front speakers anyway, so hopefully I should be able to remove the low end signal going to the front speakers and remove the high end signal that goes to the amp!!

I'll figure it out, haven't electrocuted myself yet

Oh and another question, does anyone know how I remove this type of headunit?

Cheers

Usually you just pop off the surround and you'll either have to use removal tools or 4 screws like mine.
