Imo you have hit the nail on the head.

You buy a PFL if you cant strench to a FL.

If you can afford a FL why would you wanna buy a old dated shape when you can have a more modern
shape with a nicer interior which is a far newer car
What of those who have had more than one PFL and chose not to buy a FL purely because they think it is too bland and prefer to stick with the outdated shape

Although the FL interior is nicer.

Pre facleift for me - baised I know lol.

For me the FL will be compared to the RS looks wise, whereas the Pre FL was the original ST model and shape with no big brother. It has more stand out features and I have loved them since they 1st came out (when I couldn't afford one!).

I would love to have the FL interior/gadgets though!

Having said that - this is a top site and both are loved on here as they should be. Got a feeling that everyone will always go with what they own though... Like me

Having just swapped my PFL 55-plate (which I had 4 years) for a v.low mileage FL car I thought I might comment ... the difference is quite amazing !

Admittedly my PFL had Eibachs fitted and had been well-used, but the ride and comfort in the std FL is massively better.
The FL is much more solid with no buzzes or rattles. The sound insulation seems better and the engine smoother and quieter til you really floor it. The steering however is lighter and has less 'feel'. As for the interior it looks better but the dials and stereo are a bit too fussy. Exterior looks are just a matter of personal taste.

To summarise, the FL seems a lot more polished and sophisticated and is definately a step forward in that respect. But I will definately have to fit Eibachs and a remap to make it as much fun as the old car...

I think the facelift is more grown up and smoother in terms of the bodywork, there aren't lines and silver bits on the bumper so definitely not as "boy racer" per se.

I also think the front of the facelift looks a lot better.

I had the choice of buying a facelift or a pre-facelift, the difference in price didn't really bother me. I wanted a red st3, I looked at a red facelift and liked the idea of it being newer, but visually the pre just stood out to me more. I like the speedo/pod bit on the fl but I just like the pre facelift for some reason. I still get excited when I see both of them on the road though! I never understood why they took those little fins/lines off the wheel arches, I love those! But the diffuser on the fl is awesome too. Both excellent cars. Plus I don't think they're all that different anyway, the average person wouldn't notice unless they were parked next to each other I dont think lol

Have you made sure that the steering is in Sport Mode?
Good point ! I've changed to 'Sport' and it is a bit better ..

Its taking a lot of getting used to after so long with the old car ... and I feel like my new FL needs a few good runs to loosen it up as its only been doing 2,500m a year since 2008 !!

The remap is now installed but the car is still not hitting full boost and I am desperate to get the Eibachs fitted to sharpen up the handling...

Something's aren't down to money and affordability etc......

How many of you here would go out and buy a nice escort turbo?

It depends in what the car is for, I have an '08 car as mines my main car/daily driver. If it had been a second/sports/track car it would have been the pre FL.

At the time of buying mine I still had an escort GTi 3door and had a TDCi mondeo.....

Facelift for me, i went looking for a car and the prefacelift was in my budget. Not realising a facelift model was in my range. I do like the prefacelift, it looks a tad more aggressive but somewhat dated now and the interior looks even more dated IMO
The facelift looks fresh and the interior looks modern,

Agreed with the facelift looking a little like is poorer siblings. I like that though thats why i purchased white, to blend in.

Also correct me if im wrong but the last of the facelifts got the RS block? If so mine is one of them.
