Had a minor disagreement with a block of snow and have scuffed the underside of my front bumper. It's scraped and slightly dented, not particularly noticable but it's enough to be annoying knowing it's there! Thought it would be a quick and easy fix for a bodyshop but I've just been quoted £220 as the bumper needs to be removed and sprayed.

Anyone know if it would be cheaper to just buy a new one and have that fitted rather than doing all the work on the old one? And is replacing the bumper something I could do myself?

Thanks
Daz

If you buy a new one you still need to get it painted as they only come primed, unless you are very lucky and find a undamaged one on ebay in the right colour but all the ones I have seen are damaged in some way.

Ah I see. Thanks for the reply. I'll have a quick look about but seems like I'll be paying the £220!

Depending on the damage maybe a smart fix (Chipsaway etc) might be cheaper and if it is under the bumper I wouldn't be paying for the whole thing to be painted, especially as I have caught mine a few times as have many other's.

I reckon it's a bit too much for something like chipsaway to do, I'll post pics soon. Going for dinner first :)

thats only a smallish area, id get a dent specialist to put it right, then someone like chips away or independant should be able to clean up and blend it in. For the position its in i would get some quotes, you might be surprised by what they can do. Dont think you will notice any repair due to the angles and location.

Any specialists got any comments?

I still think that can be fixed as the bumper doesn't look split so with a heat gun and some gentle persuasion (sp?) it should go back into shape and the paint damage should be easily fixed.
