No idea then.
Stuid question (but it normally works) but have you turned everything off and on again (printer and computer)?

got a guy on escortEVO whos willing to help by 'remoting on' one evening this week?

how risky is this? what stuff will he potentially have access to? I know him quite well from the years I've been on there but never met him etc....

He'll have access to everything.
Depending how he does it depends on whether you can see him do it or not.

To be honest unless you know the person I wouldn't allow ANYBODY remote access to your PC. Even if you think you have deleted stuff you can normally recover the data

I would say your connected to the wrong port as above, if this guy connects then he will see your computer as you do but you will be able to see what he is doing. i do it all the time at work.

Are you clicking on "APPLY" rather than "OK" after checking the box?
These do the same thing - Clicking 'OK' just closes the box as well, whereas 'Apply' doesn't

To the OP - I would suggest uninstalling the printer and the re-installing it, you shouldn't have to fiddle with it to make it work. I believe you are selecting the correct port, my USB printer also has a virtual port. However I do not have a second port with the same name and I think this might be causing confusion. Take it all off and put it back on again, that's what I'd do.

Nothing wrong with giving him remote access, you'll be able to see what he does on your screen (ie mouse movements, keyboard etc) and if he starts being naughty just pull the router out the wall.

Guys, Ive uninstalled, restarted, re-installed etc more times than I care to say, that printer has NEVER worked with this laptop, (Samsung RV511 with W7) usually it just tells me its printing, but the printer clearly isn't doing anything, so uninstalled it and tried again and now this.

Looks like that printer is a couple of years old and not entirely compatible with Windows 7. There are updated drivers for it here - have you tried those?
