Hi all

I have recently joined this forum to find out some valuable members information and experiences of focus STs.

I am 20 years old and currently just finishing off my training to work as a process technician in the North Sea. In six months time I will be earning some more money than currently and am looking to upgrade to a focus ST around the same time. I currently drive a 53plate VW Golf mk4 TDi running approximately 150 bhp and bags of torque

The golf is an exellent car, however I have totally fallen for electric orange focus ST's and would love to own one as soon as. Love the 5 cyl engine (have experienced the same engine in a volvo) My passion for Fords has stemmed from my dads MK2 escort RS200 custom which he has owned for over 20 years. The escort has had a few performance tweeks and is mainly used for track days. Massive amounts of fun.

I would really like to hear some of the pro's and cons of the focus such as running costs, maintenance costs and generally just peoples opinions and experiences of the car. Plus any information on altering the cars setup such as ECU upgrades and other tuning options.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Neil

Hi and
to the forum
. The biggest running cost of the
is the fuel , but if you really want the car and have a passion for a fast Ford you can overlook that .

All other costs are no better or worse than most cars . Servicing is reasonably priced as are spares . All the tuning companies are well represented on the forum and some good discounts can be had with group buys . Generally the first mod is a re-map which will take the car to 270bhp if the right company and map are used .

Hola amigo.
to the club. Pros - the noise it makes is mega. Cons - the noise it makes is mega causing vast fuel consumption and a silly grin.

You will find loads of info on here about performance mods.

You wont regret buying one - although your bank balance might.

Thanks for the quick reply Speedfreek

Thats kind of what I expected as far as maintenance goes. Fords are generally a reliable manufacturer and the 2.5T that is used in these models is exceptional. The Volvo that I have driven a few times, which I believe is the same engine??, was on 98000 miles and still ran perfectly with a beautiful note as the revs built up.

If anyone else has any further advice such as things to look for other than the usual, when buying a second hand ST, as when I buy one it will likely be about four years of age.

How much is an ECU remap for the focus? My golf was around £400 for full custom remap with before and after runs on the rolling road so I would assume something similair?

Cheers again Neil
I agree... it's the fuel costs that are the big sticking point. I wouldn't say that they are particularly expensive to maintain other than that.. I'm pretty sure the repairs, services etc aren't anything like the kind of money you'd pay for a decent BMW or Audi.. I'm not sure it's possible to get better value for money than a Ford?

The most important thing to always remember... these three words... 'It's worth it'...

Absolutely no hesitation whatsoever in saying you need to get yourself one...

If you can live with the
