I have been looking at getting some Piper Cams for the ST but im not sure if its worth doing. Anyone here have them fitted ? talked to piper cams directly and they said on a normal car with no upgrades will give an increase of approx 15bhp but a uprated chipped/modded car would see a greater increase.

if anyone has these already on the car it would be great to hear what they are like and what a difference they make to the car.

it all depends on the characteristics of the cam. Some may be suited to low down power whereas other increase peak towards the top end. I have looked at them, but i don't have one of Ford's tools to lock the pulley into place.

I'm sure one of the specialists could sort fitting out for you though.

Fishy makes a good point too. Does the MP260 have the uprated IC?

[dumb post] Mountune IC, map and filter
So would it be able to increase low down power depending on the design? I wouldn't want more top end I don't think [/dumb post]

catcams are also doing some for the ST/RS now too , pumaspeed are doing them just over £900 fitted so tempting however would we still not be limted by the output of the turbos flow ability ?
those on turbo x , JS custom turbos etc should accoridng to catcam get big gains

The problem with fitting cams is that the ST has a variable cam timing system! We arent talking about sticking cams in a CVH which is relatively easy! To work the cams will need a lot of development and would need custom mapping or be fitted on a standard car! If the cam profiles do not match the mapping it will make the car either slower or a pig to drive! With the fitting costs involved it is something that i wouldnt be looking at till youre reaching the upper echelons of power output!

Fishy is right. The ST engine would not see big gains from a different cam profile even if you could get it working in conjuction with the rest of your mods. Its forced induction so it does not need massive lift or duration on the inlet cam that a bit more boost cant supply. Its also pointless having more lift and duration on your cam profiles if you dont port and gas flow the head. Your starting to get into silly money for minimal gains area. Lot cheaper and more effective to get a bigger turbo fitted.

To add my 5p's worth

You could just look at steve's car (2bar) that is now running close to 500 bhp and he hasn't bothered to change the cams and is now only just looking at changing them as 1 of the last things he is going to do (maybe) to get more power and drive abilty.

There are far more effective ways of upping the power and torque than changing the cams, even fishy's car thats got a big upgrade hasn't had its cams changed.

Personally I would not bother with this but go for the regular stage 3 mods then once you've done this little lot it's then a case of a turbo change and deciding when it's time to stop as the modifying of these engines is endless and can get expensive
