I read that on another thread earlier!! How stupid!!!

You would have thought they would pass it straight away as it improves vision and therefore is a positive indicator for the car being on the road!!!
Think its due cos they could distract/danger other road users...

Its pathetic!

Just had a look on the VOSA site and found nothing . I also have not heard anything about this either ......
Am not sure of the correct wording but will look in the book on monday.

Lights to the front of the vehicle must be predominantly white, a different colour hue is aloud to a certain degree (Testers discretion), as a general rule anything over 6000k is a fail, and no testers dont have a meter to test it, its again testers discretion.

Testers are told "If in doubt pass and advise" however mr tester is quite within his rights to fail your car if he deems the colour to be excessive, Its up to you to prove otherwise by appealing the decision, paying for another MOT that a local VOSA rep will carry out and hoping that the VOSA rep sides with you, otherwise the decision will be upheld and you wont get an MOT.

I would not advise xenon lights unless they are bad,

What i would say though is thats its just an advise, At least you know your car has been tested properly.

The phrase 'testers discretion' sounds like a right minefield, especially if they don't follow the "If in doubt pass and advise" and drivers aren't aware of it.

Suppose it's when people with oem Xenons actually get failed that we should start worrying really.
I think they have to issue a certain number of advisors each year to make it look like they are doing their job.
My passed it mot no probs the other month.
In the past thou I ve had a car fail at 1 garage then pass at another 10 mintue later.
ive never heard anything so crazy in my life, xenon lights are standard and approved when made and put onto the focus st2/3 aswell as other cars then mot stations are giving out an advisory about them.

a lot of cars are now fitted with xenons and this does improve driving as you can see the road ahead better.

i would contact vosa mate and find out what the hell is going on and tell them the garage that gave you this advisory.

so i guess im going to be stopped by the police about my lights and given an advisory about them as their are not perfect white.

shocking!
Does the Advisory notice not get stored in the VOSA database? So if you took it elsewhere then the MOT tester could see which area's were given as 'advisory'?

Xenons are undoubtedly better for the driver of the car equipped with them, however, various jurisdictions around the world are beginning to look at them closely now as there is lots of evidence that they impair approaching drivers ability to "see through" them.

If you call vosa about an advisory notice, they will tell you that advisory notices can include anything that the tester deems necessary to advise on, this could include anything.

Yes advice notices are stored on the database although the only people with access to them is VOSA and the test station that tested it.

And advises are not automatically carried on year on year.

I wouldnt be bothered too much about an advise note, it is what it is ADVISE..

There is nothing bad, nasty, shocking about it.

Just my humble opinion though.

When mine had it's first MOT earlier this year, I got an advisory about the undertrays. Again these are standard on the ST and a number of other cars I presume.
