What's that worth nowadays? I tried buying an Edge for my parents in the UK a few years ago and the London dealer was very evasive about the discount. Eventually offered me 1% off list. Is there a rule of thumb?
Roughly worked out about 20% off. Been doing this for 30 years now using the same salesman. We've built up a good relationship and he gives me every bit of money off / part-ex price he can.

It was up to 20% off, but I’ve heard it’s not as good as it used to be and you could get up to 5 cars in 6 or 9 months. Their px offers can be poor though. Nissan used to be about 30% off. Loads of people around north east get their cars through Nissan employees. You can get around 10% off through carwow, was nearer15% when I got mine.

Did you get it faults sorted out or have you decided to try another?
Only the steering issues mate
i presume you have to return it to the dealer and cant sell it on privately if you get a discounted price?
Yes that's correct

Yeah, can't wait to actually drive it now, 4 hour train journey away. Making use of Ford's 3 day driveway insurance and hopefully get my insurance sorted over the weekend, spoke to Ford insurance and excess not too bad.
Nice one. Good shout on the driveaway insurance. So it looks like your whole process was about 4.5 months - not bad at all. Means there's a chance I might actually get it in time for peak summer :)

Isn’t this your second Mk4 ST and you also own a Puma ST?
Ive had Focus MK1, MK3.5 and 2 x MK4 ST’s and a Puma ST, numerous Escorts, Cortina’s, Capri, Granada, Fiesta, Sierra and a good few Mondeo’s (love Mondeos) , Galaxy’s and a Cougar. I didn’t say I don’t like Fords obviously! I stopped buying then as my main personal car about 20 years ago. Been a work or second car since. VAG, BMW, Audi, Jag and a few others took their place as first choice, but we’ve nearly always had a Ford or two out there if not Ford a Vauxhall but the last of those was over 10 years ago. If I had to have 1 ford and nothing else it would nearly always have been a Mondeo and if they had kept the ST going, or put better performance petrol engines in them instead of mostly boring diesels, I probably would have had a few more instead of a few of the german cars as they were easily just as good, better than some as a car. As it is I also love performance hatches, the engine and gearbox of the ST is superb along with mostly decent everything else, enough to pip the i30n for me. But now struggle to get interested in a 4.5, gutted really. Price massively OTT along with the interior just rules it out for me. But VAG has done similar and ruled themselves out too, interior is a lot nicer to look at but horrendous to use.

I deeply miss the small cubby on the drivers side by the steering wheel. Also I would've appreciated ambient lighting at night that were different colours.
did the mk4 have have a choice of ambient light colors? I know the mk3.5 titanium etc had this, but the mk3.5 ST was always red only. This I liked and wish the mk4.5 had red ambient lighting

Yeah my Mk4 has multi colour, I can chose from about 8 different colours I think. Have mine on Red at the moment, used to use dark blue (proper blue, not like the cyan button lighting).

Yeah, from order to collection just under 5 months. Well worth the wait, you'll love it. Car is now home in Cumbria, nicer to drive than either my JCW or Golf GTi, really impressed and it does have rev matching in sport mode without the performance pack. One problem, none of the buttons on the console work, apart from the volume control and engine stop/start. I didn't realise until stuck in traffic on A50 and having a play, too late to turn around so spoke to dealer in Nottingham and have to pop it into local dealer to have a look.

Interesting, what are your issues with the 4.5 interior? I suppose the seats and the touchscreen are the only real differences
I hate (not dislike) in order of hateness ! The stripped out dash/removal of the heater panel etc, it was never an audi in there but now its plain bad and beyond boring along with the stupid idea of controlling everything via the screen. The screen itself is far too big and gainly. The seats, or rather the headrests, nooo. Not only 4.5 but the natty lcd dash, prefer quality dials /lcd mix but do like others LCD’s, a software update could improve that a lot just by adding bezels to the dials and bloody numbers on the speedo, who the hell thought of that, does he still work for Ford? You have to sit in there after committing to a mortgage to”rent” it. Also not keen the new front end much, but could live with that, ever since someone on here said it looked like a Transit at the front, it stuck and I see a Transit! And don’t like the loss of the PS4s tyres.

Nicer to drive than a GTi ? Assume mk8 or at least mk7.5 ? Depends what you mean by”nicer to drive” ? The Golf has a far better ride, more refined and to most more comfortable making it superb to drive. But if you prefer a sharper more focused with a less forgiving (and configurable) ride and experience, the Focus delivers. While since I drove a mini but driven a M135 which is the same platform (not talking old JCW’s) and it is a better car than a Focus ST. Infact with a Focus at £40k an easy decision for most , or equally the 128ti. The 128ti has to be the best hot hatch currently in fwd form, if only they were manual I would order one or the other today.

Don't get me wrong the GTi (7.5)was well put together and drove great, but the Focus just felt right, more engaging and every bit as good as the Golf. My JCW was 69 plate and a great fun drive although not as sharp as I'd have liked and certainly not as practical as the Golf or Focus. I suppose it's a case of we all experience different cars in a different way.

Glad you like your ST @Mean ST

I love mine.
Yes, it's great and when I went out this morning all the buttons are working, possibly doing a system reset last night has helped.

Everthing about it? I like mine a quite a lot, about 85% of it which is good for any car.

Price aside which is a major hurdle, if they made the ST available with the original interior, the same as the other Focus models I would consider another even with the Ford seats etc.

All set for collection tomorrow, dealer sent video this afternoon, looks fantastic. Only hiccup has been my current insurer won't cover it and because reg doesn't come up on any systems yet it's hard work getting a new quote online.

I am with LV and not having a reg yet isn’t a problem with them. I paid about £260 last year with csma discount and £100 excess including a Dreamscience map

I too was with LV when the mk4.5 arrived and had no trouble getting them to change my policy to the new car even though I had purchased a personalised plate from DVLA which hadn't been assigned to a car yet.

What LV didn't tell me in the phone conversation was they changed my excess from £250 on the mk3.5 to £500 on the new one.

When my renewal came through last month they not only increased the renewal price but upped the excess to £650 on any claim.

Needless to say I've now gone elsewhere and got my excess down to £100.

It's a shame because I really like LV's customer service. Really helpful staff just a phone call away.
