First of all i did a search but didn't see anything that sound too similar to this problem, if it is then i do apologise and feel free to delete this thread.

I thought i'd try here before taking it up to Ford.

When slowly accelerating out of a gear change more often than not there seems to be a rattle within the engine (in all honesty its hard to pin point where) gear change is smooth and so is the accelerating so I don't know if this is something major as i would have thought those would be affected?

I'm very new to these cars so not got to grips with all the quirks yet!

Thanks in advance
Dave

is it a rattle or is it a click/clonk there are loads of threads on the latter, it boils down to either the drive shaft problem or the rear gear box mount. Most of us have this noise its very annoying.

It's more of a rattle, thank a clink/clonk... think i'll run it in Ford today and get a techy to have a look.

Thanks,

I had the same metal noise, which was driving me mad, but it was coming from the rear passenger side, is yours?

After lots of investigation (taking the interior panels off, me and my dad going for drives along bumpy roads etc) after all of that it was a stone which had gone up between the rear arch liner (the carpet type liner) and the metal arch. It had got stuck in a ridge, I took out the stone and SUCESS!

I dont know if that helps at all?

i'd be supprised if its not the same thing been reported before. Low speeds when changing or lifting off the throttle. I had the drive shafts done unde warrenty and i still get it, i reckon its the rear gear box mount, rattles/clicks when the engine rotates with the shift in power

if you put the car on a flat surface in 1st gear with the handbake off and the engine OFF. open the bonnet and rock the car forwards and backwards while listening for the noise. or sit in the car with the engine running, handbrake on tight and keep putting the car in 1st and reverse while dumping the clutch quite hard just past bitting point. if you do it right the car wont move but the engine will in both directions. classic way of testing gearbox/engine mounts. we do it all the time at work. good luck getting that diagnosed at a main dealer! they will probably say it is you rear wiper blade. lol.

I thought it might be heat shield but it doesn't happen any other time apart from when pulling away and lifting off throttle. Don't notice it in 5th, 6th but thats probably because the exhaust drowns it out i don't know.

Car feels ok to drive and reversing seems ok too from what I can tell, doesn't do it every time though but more often than not. Generally driving is ok just when changing gear.

Keep us updated with your findings, i'm about as handy with cars as Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen (no idea why him, he was just on tv and doesn't look the mechanical type)

I had a rattle like that coming from the engine bay, it turned out to be the dsci induction pipe hitting the strut brace which was easily fixed with a bit of foam. If your cars standard then it wont be that causing the problem, if it isnt standard maybe worth checking.

With the rear gear box mount bolt is it just a matter of tightening up or does it need replacing?

Well went garage the bolt on the rear gearbox mount wasn't loose at all, very tight... checked all heat shields and nothing seems obvious in getting caught, changing gears when the car is switched off all seems fine.

Had a good listen on the way back and it is definately when changing gear and sometimes when letting off the go pedal at slow speeds. It also sounds like its coming from the left hand side.

Massive thread revival I know...but I have the exact same noise. Its getting worse too. Soo bloody annoying, its a metalic rattling noise, as if a screw is loose in the engine bay. The location of the noise is down and behind the central console, as if it were in the engine bay near the gearbox mount.

It squeaks and rattles when you let go of the accelerator at low speeds, and also is prevelant when changing gear or reversing at low speeds. Sometimes a few bumps in the road make it squeak and rattle too.

Did you ever find what was causing this? Seems very similar to a noise plaguing me at the moment. Fitted a DSCi Induction and Radtec I/C the other day. Due to the exit on the I/C getting damaged during its postage, the hose clamp wouldn't grab it enough. I went out and gave it some and the hose blew off (que a horrible death and experience). So luckily enough I have the odd assortment of tools in my boot. Whipped the light off and managed to push the hose back on and took it easy getting it home. Bought two new jubilee clips and replaced the old clip with these (work a treat). But since the hose came off I've had an intermittent metallic like rattle somewhere like you've described. Very rare but when it appears very annoying. The sound doesn't increase with revs it just progressively gets a little faster with engine movement. It can be there upon start up, clutch engaged or disengaged, in gear and out of gear. When its there it also rattles over bumps in the road or over potholes etc. The vibrations also come through the accelerator peddle. Any help from anybody would be greatly appreciated
