Looking For A Focus St Under £8000

Hi everyone,

As the title suggests, i'm looking for a Focus ST under £8000. I've been searching autotrader for a few weeks now and there seems to be a few high miler old examples for about £5k and some pretty new ST's (new shape) at about £10000 to £18000 and not a lot in between.

Is there a drought on decent models around the 6 to 8k mark?

What year did the Focus change shape? I'm guessing 2005? Massive price gap between old shape and new shape. WIth that in mind i'm looking for an old shape 2004 model in good condition with less than 50k miles i guess...

Anyone selling or got any advice of where i can get one please?

Muchos Gracias

Rob

To be honest you'll be pretty hard pressed to get an ST for under £8000, you can pick up a few st170's for that price but you're so much better off going for the real thing first time round, the first ST's came out on a 55 plate i believe so late 05, you're better off spending the money now and getting something you're really like.

mind you, if you dont like spending money the ST isnt for you cos you spend the best years of your life at the pumps.

hope this helps.
i presume your talking about the ST170 then?

Hi yeah i am talking about the ST170... i guess it is not considered an ST then around these parts? Lol I'll keep my options open though and keep scanning the classifieds...

IS the ST170 really that far behind the post 05 ST?
check the focus st section on the pistonheads.com classifieds there are some nice low millage st170 foci on there bud

st170 still an ST just i think most on here have the ST225 the newer shape one.

the 2 car are completely different

the st225 has the 2.5 turbo 5 pot engine for starters compared to the st170 2.0 zetec/duratec. engine

on the whole the st225 is alot more modern and advanced with technology
Conatct Steve at all vehicles, he may be able to source you one, I got a decnet 06 focus from him and all his other cars looked good. Website is www.allvehicles.co.uk he is in littlehampton, west sussex.
The ST170 is a naturally aspirated 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine with a 6 speed box, its not really all that IMO as i test drove one and at the time wanted to get out and walk (compared to my current car it seems great tho
), they made these up until about 2004 and you wont find they have held their value and will pick one up for under 6k, some as cheap as 2k.

The ST225 is a turbo charged 2.5 litre 5 cylinder engine with a 6 speed box, they started production in 2005, they have increased in value recently and you wont find one for under 9k ish. (unless its a dog).

They are 2 completely different cars really, they just share the same Shopping Trolley badging.

I owned an st170, nice car as you would expect from a focus but for me really under powered! if you like fun and power go for the TURBO !

In an ideal world yes i would go for a 2008 turbo BUT i have a limited budget so i was thinking of an ST170 for about 5k. I reckon that would be fast enough for me as at the minute i'm running a Focus 1.6 zetec... but i'm bored of the economy and want something exciting to drive. I used to drive a 306 gti6 but that was unreliable.

I have owned 2 306 gti6's now and they are 10 million times better than the ST170 is and they are like a £1000 to buy. I wouldnt waste 5k on a ST170.

I know this is a ford site but have you thought about an astra GSI?
Although i will be going back to ford from a zafira GSI , i found the 2lt turbo 190bhp fun and reliable. A very nice car and prices have dropped dramatically
Na for the money buy a Ford Racing Puma you will get a mint on eand they are very cool and pretty rare

and awsome fun so im told

I'd go for an ep3 type-R mate. They're around the same price, quicker and you'll get a bigger grin
