Had the car in the garage again - thought it was driveshaft splines

Garage is convinced that its coming from the top end of the engine.

It's a click click click on the transition in the VVT about 2000rpm - 3000rpm

The sound manifests as a 'click click click'

Although I'm not entirely convinced as the click gets faster when you're in 2nd and 3rd (have heard it going under bridges etc...)

anyone had anything similar ?

They reckon its OK to drive and something I may just have to live with without spending ££££

Taking it to Dreamscience in Jan for them to look at it

Any thoughts / advice ?

Sticky solenoid/motor? How does the VVT work on those? I take it they have verified it isn't knocking.

Sticky tappet? I had one on my old Orion. It would come in randomly, but usually on the motorway ar around 2500 rpm. Used to go if I varied the revs a bit. As a temporary fix I put some additive in the engine - and this did seem to sort it, but I replaced all of the tappets on the next service.
