Keyless not working

Guys
I need help if possible please. My wife's st m3 wo t open the doors keyless and when you open the doors the alarm goes off saying keys not detected or something similar. If we put the keys in the centre consol on the little circle the car will start. We had a keysmith out and he said both keys are sending signals with no issue. I'm stumped as to what it could be. Ford want £126 just for the diagnostics only nothing else to check for an error code. Have you guys any idea what it could be ? There must be something in the car the signal goes to and my thought was just buy that item, but even if rhis was possible would it all need recoding ? Any ideas appreciated as she won use the car because the alarm goes off before she can set the key.
Many thanks

Are you opening the car using the key blade? I'd try replacing the fob batteries regardless of if they're sending a signal. Secondly replace the fuse in the car for the keyless system.

Thanks for the reply.
I have changed both batteries in the fobs.
She can open it with the key blade but it says keys not detected on the dash and the alarm goes off . It will only start by putting the key in the centre console.
I'll check the keyless fuse tomorrow.
Many thanks.
The main car battery is likely, normally the first sign of it getting weak, is the locking playing up, don’t forget to re set the battery monitoring system if you do fit a new battery.

Checked the car battery and its fine. It does start buy o lying by putting g the key in the special place. It's got me beat looks like paying ffordfor the diagnostics.
Quick update but still need a bit of advice. I have been told it could be the rf receiver in the roof lining,
Is it easy to take the roof lining out
Would a second hand or new part need recoding to the car when it's installed ?
Many thanks
I have a copy of the procedure for removing the receiver.

Many thanks really appreciate it. Does the location of the receiver vary ie above passenger or driver side depending on which side the steering wheel is on. Sorry if it sounds a daft question .
Once again many thanks.
I'll update once I've hopefully sorted it .
No, RHD isn't the mirror image of a LHD.
As a rule of thumb, only stuff that has to moved is in a different location.
OK so a quick update . We had the diagnostics done and ford reckon it's the RFR and the BCM. I did say so both have packed up then and he said they found slight corrosion on the BCM but the RFR had failed. They want £580 for the repair if we go ahead, plus £126 for the diagnostic work.
If I bought the parts would they need to recoded to the keys?
I thought it strange both to go as the only issue is the keyfob not detected but I don't know anything about electrics.
Any help or is it just biting the bullet and getting ford to do the work ?
Thanks
i would disable keyless entry if i had it on my car, less chance of it being stolen..
I'd just replace the receiver and take it from there.

Or perhaps spend a few quid and don't rely on manufacturer's security? My C43 has keyless and I've never worried about it being stolen that way.

I am sure when my Mondeo key battery failed the locking stopped working but the car still started ok. As though the location transponder in the key is not powered by the battery? I also had to use a working spare key to get my ex flat battery key working again using a re programming technique that I cannot remember.
OK I've brought the car home for now with no repairs carried out so far, I said I needed time to think about the cost. It is what it is and if we need to pay so be it but I wanted to do a few checks myself first. So tonight I'm going to look at the BCM for the corrosion they say it has. I was going to buy a second hand RFR for under 20 quid and see if it works or not. Does anyone know which plug to undo for the RFR please ?
Thanks
id do what alb says and just try another receiver for starters,if you remove the sunglasses holder/panel from the headlining then that should allow you enough room to look inside, the recievers about 3" to the right of it so you should be able to see it,they are glued to the headlining though so it will take a fair bit of twisting and pulling to get it free, good luck
