Hi All

I have posted this problem up before but its still occurring.

I have had my ST for just over a year now. Not too long after getting it i had a strange knocking noise coming from what i perceive is from under tghe bonnet somewhere. This can occur when i press the clutch pedal down, Or when im driving along and i blip the throttle (without touching the clutch pedal) its almost as if its when the engine moves from acceleration or the weight of the car shifts from sudden acceleration.

Anyway as its still under warranty, i took it to Ford and with my lack of ability to try and explain things easily (lol) they had a look at it and came back to me saying it was the battery cover that was loose.

They said they tightened it up and i drove off, no noise for the rest of that day, the day after its back! this has been going on ever since on and off.

Has anyone else had this problem? i had a look under the bonnet yesterday and noticed the battery cover top doesn't seem to fit properly over the battery and bottom section of the housing, and when i tried to move it, it seemed to make a similar noise to what i have been experiencing (a dull thud)

What im worried about is it might be clutch or engine mounts or maybe shocks? but the problem is so intermittent its ridiculous.....so bad in fact i drove off to my local ford dealer the other day to get them to look at it, the car was making the knocking noise ALL the way to the garage and as soon as i pulled up on the Ford forecourt it stopped!! bloody car!!

Any help would be appreciated!

Will run it without the battery cover, hmm it has been suggested it might be an engine mount but would that be an intermittent problem?? i would have thought it would happen all the time?

It may be backlash in the driveshafts too.

It's hard to tell without hearing it.

I'd get it down to a good garage/a specialist st garage and ask them to check it over.

I have exactly the same problem since one year. The noise started last winter, disappear in springtime and now is back... Obviously last year I went to a garage and they told me that everything was ok. It's something related to the temperature (some days there is, others not...) so I think is an engine mount but it's very difficult to find it because not ever present.

I've got something that sounds very similar and think we found it the other day, when the bonnet was lifted i sat with the handbrake on and lifted the clutch on and off the bite making the knocking sound and it appeared to be the top engine mount knocking against the metal bracket that sits above it restricting the movement of the mount.

Mine will sometimes go most of the day silent then suddenly start knocking again.

Hi All

I have my car back from ford. they have fixed the problem under warranty.

It was "The Rear Engine Mount" that was totally split apparently.

Anyway all replaced and knocking noise has not returned. If it happens again ill get some aftermarket mounts i think. Im clearly not the only one with this problem!

When the new one dies replace it with a elevate, powerflex, vibra-technics one and the problem will be gone forever, great mod to, I love my elevate one
