Hello all.

After mulling it over I finally took the plunge and got myself an
which is being collected next week. Its having a Code Red Stg 1 fitted before I get it and I have been looking at having a Code Red intercooler fitted. Does anyone have any advice\info on whether the Code Red intercooler is better than the Pumabuild? Code Red would be handier as the dealer has one I can get fitted pre collection but if the Pumabuild is significantly better I may wait and go for that. Pumabuild also have a good plot on their website showing power gains etc but I cant find anything like this for Code Red - does anyone have?

Appreciate this topic should probably be in the technical section but I am waiting for my subscription to kick in and I need to find out as much as I can ASAP so I can tell the dealer!

It should also be pointed out that this site has been a significant help to me getting one but I think it may also cost me more money on mods....good fun though!

Cheers

I'm not sure which intercooler Code Red use but it will be more than capabale of being up to the job. There's not much difference between most of the models available to choose from imho. If you need info on the gains with Code Red, drop Gary a pm (Wolfman on here) or if you can't till your membership kicks in then drop him an email [email protected]

Hey up Wiggy,
Welcome to a fellow ST owner (or rather soon to be) from Sheffield. As Troy has already stated, give Gary a call/e-mail. They are only over in stockport so the trip over may have you coming back with more than an IC ... especially if you trial their demo car!!!

QUOTE(Wiggy @ 5 Nov 2009, 09:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know if these Gen 3 AirTec are really as good for half the price, anyone got one?

http://www.autospecialists.co.uk/Just-In-G...roduct-656.html#

Other posts say they are just as good as the others but cheaper. Problem is I'd need to get someone to fit it!
I've got one mate and I cant fault it at all.
Even though it's half the price of the RadTecs and Pro Alloys, it's certainly not only half as good!
IMO for the weather we get even in the summer in the UK, the Airtec is perfect.
IIRC the Code Red, Pro Alloy and RadTec are ever so slightly bigger than the Airtec, but unless you're going to be doing some serious track days or driving on the sun, you'll never notice the difference.

if your interested - I am having my Code Red WR intercooler removed at Profile next Saturday the 14th.

selling it at £330 which is £200 less than it cost. (nearly airtec price but better quality)

could be collected/fitted at profile - or I live in Huddersfield.

I cant say much about the airtec - never had one - but I think if something is half price - then theres a reason.

I work for a quality turbo spares company and the cheap stuff that comes in from abroad (China, Vietnam, etc.) is many times half our prices and less - but we test them for quality and the metals etc. are much inferior although they look the same - they definately are not the same, and I would presume the airtec is similar.

all the best with your choice

Just an update.

Due to Admiral refusing to insure me if I had an IC fitted I spent the money elsewhere on the car.

However, I did have a chat with Gary from ProfileAutomotive who are doing the other work. He advised me that an IC is only really relevent in normal conditions for maintaining the power, it doesn't give you more. What it does is prevent you losing power when the temperature rises, hence a potential loss in summer without an IC. Think I was taken in by the marketing people! Probably something I will look at next year.

Also, Airtech Gen 3 is supposed to be ok but isn't quite the quality of the others which is why it is cheaper. That said, a lot of people on here said that they have had no problems. Basically, you pay your money you take your choice - I'd probably go for it.

Thanks for all the help, especially David for offering me to sell his.

Sounds like an inherent design fault or manufacturing fault, I would demand a new one

Hello mate - no problem - glad your getting sorted.

I know how bad it is to get intercooler on your insurance unless you go with a specialist performance insurance company - Greenlight, Chris Knott etc. etc.

most dont have intercooler as part of their mod options - so dont recognise it - they will class it as a turbo change/upgrade which bumps it up no end.

once you start modding you need to go to a specialist to get best deals.

all the best
