Mine has dropped back with the cooler weather up north. Now 36/7 37.4 since new in 2400 miles
Vag computers are spot on same as the ford one as long as you dont tune them and fail to have it re calibrated. Although this usually applies to the bodge boxes

I'm taking Mrs A and A-Junior to a Uni open day tomorrow, so filled up today as the remaining was around 80 miles and this place is 50 miles away. (range anxiety, my previous Passat could do 800-900 miles a tank)

The scores on the doors are:

348 miles

42.19 litres (9.29 imp gallons)

= 37.45 MPG

I think I made a mistake here as the pump wasn't working correctly, so this is a report and not a claim!

I've never had a trip computer, built in or add in like the Scanguage, match tank to tank very closely. I don't think it is possible for them to do so as they calculate average MPG as an average of instant MPG, and instant MPG is based on a "snapshot" of speed vs. fuel being added - probably every .25-1 second.

Update to this, most tanks work out at about 35-ish depending on "joy" levels :busted:

The OBD is kind of a wild guess, e.g. filled up yesterday and it predicted 405 miles to fillup. After 65 miles I still (apparently) had 396.

I have nearly 4 k on it now and 35 is about as low as it has got, more is common especially in warmer weather, this has more of an impact than the way I drive it. Low 40s sometimes.

Ref your mileage after fill up. This is quite normal. It is because it is based on the average since reset, probably when you started that day from cold. After you filled up the engine was hot the run probably lighter resulting in large recalculations if the cycle.

The computer is extremely accurate to the drop of fuel, it meters the dam stuff to the micro drop so it knows. That is what computers are brilliant at. The variations are programming parameters and inacuracy of speedo and trip meter. That said I am not sure they dont use gps for that now. My M3 obd drive analyser app connected speedo reads a couple of mph lower than the actual speedo, same as displayed on my phone sat nav, that is obviously using gps not the displayed speed on speedo.

Just to add, I dont do short journeys, amost everyone is 10 miles + and I live in gods country up north where its not that difficult to avoid heavy traffic out of town. I also know how to drive quickly and economicaly, something most of us old farts are pretty good at, its an art from harder times the youngans just cannot grasp 🧐

Not sure the computer that manages the OBD display is the same one as meters the fuel. As I understand it the former "queries" for fuel and speed info and calculates the instant and average on an ongoing basis. keeping them seperate allows the same engine to be used in different cars with different displays. I used to use OBD based trip computers (Scanguage & Ultragauge) and they had the same issue but could be "tuned" to the individual car. The problem with them was that tuning them to my daily suburban drive profile meant they were inaccurate when going on a longer journey. Adjusting them for the longer journey made local ones less accurate.

I now use the OBD as a "how am I doing" display - is my instance more than the average (so I'm improving), is the average for the trip more or less than yesterday - like a car equivalent of a steps app on your phone ;)

I'm in Scotia on missionary work, and I may resemble the description of "old fart" too ;)

I get around 23 and 24 mpg on local trips in cold weather and around 27 mpg in good weather. Not bad considering I've got a full Milltek system, a Mountune 275 upgrade and part of the 300 upgrade as well!

I think 500 miles is possible, the image below is after the roadworks on the M6 and "Smart" motorways (50-ish), taken by passenger.

97.8 miles so far, 408 predicted. The 408 remained up to 120 miles and then it started to fall.

I'm afraid I did get bored so after ~250 miles later the OBD said I only had 38 miles left... :busted:

Just read through a few of these posts and now think my car has issues. I live in Devon so drive country lanes and have a mountune 275 kit but I average 16.8mpg. Admittedly I work about 3 miles away from work so do pretty short journeys everyday but still mine seems about half what everyone else seems to be getting I do also drive it how an ST should be driven so that probably doesn’t help.

Short journeys like that kills your fuel consumption because your engine will never be up to normal working temperature.....which also means you should be driving gently.

Based on what you have said, the mpg you are getting does not seem overly unusual to me.

You need to do much longer open road journeys which could potentially double your current average.

I always keep an eye on my oil pressure and boost gauge to make sure I don't push it too far but I figured the short journeys wouldn't help, didn't know it would be that much though.

That figure seems pretty low, but to be fair my mpg always drops massively on short trips so if I can, I walk ;-)
How do you drive it like a ST on a 3 miles journey?
It probably takes the first 7 miles of my journey to work to get the oil temperature up in the current weather! Until it has risen above the min temperature mark I won't go hard on it!

I'd ponder a leccy for that short a journey, or an old 1.0 Aygo second car - which are not too bad...
