Unless your job is really in doubt I wouldnt think you would be too worried to buy something due to Brexit. And most cars are on lease anyway these days.

Back to the ST looks - is there anything unique apart from the exhausts ?

Oh I agree, but there are a lot of people out there that panic and worry about everything. You only have to go to the supermarket a few days before Christmas and it's utter chaos, the shops are shut for one day and people act like the world is ending. Same when ther was a fuel shortage years ago and people were panic buying petrol. If people had carried on as normal there would no have been a problem, but you ended up with people who used ÂŁ20 a month brimming their cars and filling jerry cans.

Well Ford can shove that thing where the sun dont shine. Im not wasting my money on it!

3 year pcp on Focus ST estate ÂŁ277 month, final value of a scratty ÂŁ12600!!!

3 year pcp Civic Type R GT ÂŁ222 month, final value ÂŁ16500 and the interest rate with Honda is double Fords!

Both cars are within. Couple hundred initial cost after discounts , just under ÂŁ32k. ÂŁ10k deposit. The final value of my ST3.5 is ÂŁ13100 after 4 years !!!!!!!!

= lots of idiots about unfortunately.

Perhaps Ford believes that there's more profit in selling pretend performance cars than the real thing?
Theyll know theres a market for people who cant afford the top spec model and they are the target audience to UP the price making way for a higher price for the new generation Top Spec ST buyers who wouldnt settle for anything less.
Especially an ST-Line

I'll answer my own question from what I've noticed or read:

Exclusive alloy wheels, a steeper rear spoiler, different front grille insert & rear diffuser and unique shaped DRL's.

Any more ?

If you hate it that much, just bore off!! If you dont like the new ST then dont buy one.

Better yet, go buy a new Civic Type R and ****** off from this forum. Youre neither constructive nor witty.

So what your saying is the you won't "Waste" your money buying the cheaper car? This is why we see articles in the sun about people who say they were "conned" into buying their car when actually they are just rubbish at simple maths, For a start, unless you're doing like 24000 miles a year, the quoted residual for the Focus is incorrect,Residual value on a Focus ST Estate based on 9k per year is a less scratty ÂŁ16842 but we will stick with your scratty figures as they make the below calculations even funnier!!

Focus ÂŁ10000 deposit +36x ÂŁ277 + ÂŁ12600 = ÂŁ32572

Civic ÂŁ10000 deposit + 36 x 222 + ÂŁ16500 = ÂŁ34492

Based on your figures, the Focus is a bargain!

To be fair the shape is growing on me. I just wish it was a bit more aggressive looking that's all.

However, all the reviews seem very positive so I will reserve judgement until I test drive one.

The only sticking point (for me) is the price; nearly as much as I paid for my RS!

Let's keep this a clean fight folks, nothing below the belt please :)

Personally the only issue I have with the Mk4 is the way it looks, it's far too smiley and not nearly as aggressive looking as the Mk3.5. But then the Mk3 looked like a startled guppy and the facelift looked much better. Wouldn't surprise me if this happens again :)

Yep that was back in 2016 on a car designed 10 years ago

I paid 52K in 2004 for a M3, 15 years on and a Mk4 for 20K less with not dissimilar performance but with a huge amount of modern tech in it. Then again the Fiesta ST was 30K cheaper last year and is just as much fun to drive.

Clearly not a great comparison, but the Mk4 looks a relative bargain in comparison.

Where do you stop when you look at pricing?

As I said in post they are about the same price within a couple of hundred. And I also said the Civic was double the interest rate, about 6% apr so on finace the Civic will cost more. The point was the final value of only 12600 from ford which pushes the monthly payment right up. Thats usually what matters to most with finance. Plus if thats all Ford are valuing them at thats another concern, ÂŁ20k depreciation in 3 years + interest. I find 12600 hard to believe so going to query it, doesnt seem right. Ford main dealer.

I like the tech in the new car but lets not get carried away, its value is not huge and common in many cars. Adaptive cruise Is about ÂŁ500 extra in VAG cars. Not sure that much else is uncommon these days?

As pointed out above......I don't know how you are looking at this but based on those figures the Civic is the much better deal because it is worth almost ÂŁ4k more after the same amount of time, plus the monthly payments are ÂŁ55 less.

The total price only comes into play if you want to pay the final value and keep the car, but very few people actually do that with PCP deals.

I'd prefer a type r. Probably better, based on not very much at all. But no estate.
The Type R has a big boot, big enough just about for me, the Focus boot just isnt big enough, I tried using mine for work but ended up with kit on the back seat too often. Would have to be an ST Estate. Apart from residual worries I would like to know what the suspension set up is. If its the same as the normal mode with adaptive dampers I'm happy with that. Same with the hatch, if the standard suspension = normal mode I wouldnt be bothered about the adaptive option.

Correction! I contacted the dealer about the residual value and she said it looks wrong, expects about 15k, but couldnt check it as system was down. Waiting for new fv and monthly payment. Will try one of the other options to see if its available a bit cheaper, ÂŁ32k after 10% discount for a ST estate is still painful.

For what it's worth, piston heads found the passive damper setup to be stiffer than the CCD car.
