Well I wanted to join the site happy that I had become the owner of my first St, but it's not the case ..... First of all, hi every one , I'm Tim ... In from Stockport in Manchester , I'm new to St but far from a ford Virgin.... Owned numerous cosworths and Rs cars over the years, but this St seems to of bitten me..... Well I hope and pray not ... But here goes.... So start the car, stone cold, no noise, let it warm up for 5 mins and rest your foot on the throttle when driving gently (saving fuel, yes I'm a fuel Jew!!) at anyhwhere from 1300rpm to 2500 ish and there's a horrid rattle coming from the engine.... It doesn't sound like bottom end (please God NO!)
It sounds like a follower or something, but I'm now in panic mode as I bought the car without knowing this fault and drove the 300 miles home , oil pressure on the gauge stays away from the red, and it's seems to be boosting standard (up to half way) but it has a dream works intake is it?? Across the engine, and a decay pipe... I'm Hopi g some one can help me on this issue as in seriously wiping my bum every 30 mins atm until I know the fault has gone away.... Any one experienced similar issues?
thanks guys
Tim

Thanks for your reply... Yea well when I say rattling, it sounds like metallic almost like a follower is bone dry at certain revs, which I am praying isn't bottom end.... I'm based in Stockport, I only use 1 garage , over the years I've used every single garage that's worth a look around these parts (I sell cars for a living ) and the best around is MC autos , on Alldis street, in great moor, Stockport.. They are awesome mechanics, hoping to take it in today on the off chance .... So will update accordingly.....

What's yours doing exactly? Mine sounds like something inside the engine is loose or growling when it does it... Watched a link last night on a 2010 focus Rs with a rattling ecu cover that sounded similar, however I don't think that's the same noise as mine sounds in the engine :(
Other than the fault how cool is the St really! I've genuinely fallen in love with it other than this fault..... Want to keep this a short while and buy a Rs replica like the rs500 rep on eBay,! Has anyone seen that car? It looks like a really good example for the £8500 price tag!

If you think the noise if from the bottom end then it's more likely to be the clutch/flywheel then the value follower.

Valve followers tend to be noisiest from cold, but you can get some treatment made by Forte for them. I'm not saying it's a cure, but if adding it quietens down the noise you've probably found the issue, if not time to look elsewhere.

My heart sank when I first heard the noise, but thankfully it was just the DMF. Was a blessing in disguise really :)

Now, sounds like a broken piston I think..... Doesn't do it from stone cold, does it more the warmer it gets, until it's at temp then stays as loud, have no idea how to put a video on here or I would.... Sounds to me like my old bora Tdi with chocolate can when I wore through the top of two of the lifters.... But I just can't find anything on the net that says the cams or lifters ever fail this bad..... It's a nasty noise guys..... Personally guys I Think it's over for this St 😞
