Can anyone help? A few night ago my laptop kept freezing after about 20 30- mins saying windows is not responding and the cursor was busy doing something the whole time?
i had to switch it off and on again, its been fine all day. But has now started doing it again.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

QUOTE(rickylee @ 27 Nov 2009, 05:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Chuck it in the bin and get a Mac. Not too helpful I know.

You've probably got something nasty running in the background that you know nothing about. Give these programs a try, see what they can find.

Ad-Aware

SystemCare

TuneUp Utilities

Good luck!

Cheers Ricky

i have virgin pc guard which hasn't found anything? will give these a try.

How far back was the restore point Phil as i had shutdown issues with mine last week , turned out it was a Windows update and ended up restoring back to a much earlier point than i wanted to , but it fixed it !!! .

I know there are plenty of people on here far more experienced than me at this , but if all else fails , Pm Gav , he will know

QUOTEStrange thing is last week it did its usuall windows update, but then said it had failed to install? and reverted back the settings on its own?
I restored it to earlier that day and it worked fine up untill this afternoon?

It could be hardware but if you say it has only happened since an update then it sounds like either a bug has been introduced with the updates, or an unfinished update

You can remove patches in Add/Remove program. So if you suspect a particular patch then remove and try without.

If for example a service pack (XP is on 3 now) has failed to install then remove it completely and start again.

Try running Windows update again and finish putting patches on.If you say they failed it may of left the machine half updated which can cause problems.

It can be a number of causes ie. I had the same problem when running my gfx card in accelerated mode, was buggy drivers
