Check your fuses mate, they're fused seperately.
On the facelift - engine bay fusebox - LH side fuse 16, RH side fuse 14 - both 40A.
If you've got a pre-facelift you'll have to look in your manual.
HTH.

There is a connection block either side of the screen under the scuttle panel, it could be a loose connection, or corroded. mine does it on a small section and this seems to correspond with the corrosion on one side.
I'm going to make a stone chip appear and get it replaced.

cheers guys ill have a look see the worst bit is

the passenger side actually has a fair size chip init and it works lol and the drivers side is mint and nothing lol

mines is pre facelift so will check my manual
My car also suffered from this before I bought it from my Son. We thought that a stone chip might have broken the element, but when it was replaced he said there was a sort of foil strip connector at the bottom of the windscreen that had come off on one side. Don't know if it can be stuck back down or if you can do anything other than to take the windscreen out to fix it. He did not try as there was a new screen going in.

The above is good advice and might well solve your problem - I only flag this up as a possibility if all else looks OK.
I have exactly the same problem with my prefacelift. I have heard that the fuse for the Windscreen is devided into two. One part for the passenger side and the other part for the drivers side.
I was planning to get a new fuse over the weekend.

I think the fuse is located behind the glove box.
im having a kind of similar problem, but is only the corners of each side of the windscreen, all the way from the bottom to the top that dosent demist for me when i press the heated screen button

its about 3 inches that dosent demist on either side

what could this be?

That is normal, if you look closely at the screen you will see where the elements stop.

wow, why dosent it just go all the way across the windscreen

it leaves quite an irritating blindspot in certain situations

Its just the way they are manufactured, they have been the same on all fords for years?
I had the same problem about 9 months ago, car was 30 months old
Left side of windscreen stopped demisting, checked fuses and OK
Took it to my dealer who diagnosed that the electrical connection had sheared or had become detached from the glass
They fitted a new windscreen under warranty
like what philjb said, theres 2 element strips that plug in under the rubber seal by the windscreen wipers, have a look at them and see if you can see anything.
I had this problem a few weeks ago on my pre-facelift car where the drivers side of the windscreen wouldn't clear.

All those with a pre-facelift car the fuse your after is located in the auxiliary fuse box located under the bonnent. It's not numbered but the underside of the fuse box cover has a diagram showing which fuse is what. It's a large, square grey fuse that's rated at 70A

same problem since I refitted the scuttle panel
Think I may of damaged the ribbon./foil connector when
banging the panel back on (it was a pig to clip back in).. cars still under warranty though!

My M plate RS2000 escort had exactly the same type of screen. Apparently ford have the patent on these screens
