Hi Everyone,

Thought I'd drop in and introduce myself.

I'm currently looking for a car for my lovely other half and she mentioned the ST. She likes to be a bit controversial, especially as I'm a bit of a die hard VW fan
and own a modified Edition 30 Golf.

So, here I am looking at how the ST's perform, what they are like to own as Daily drivers and any niggles/common faults they may have. I'm a bit of a serial modder and so if she bought one I'd undoubtably be looking to modify it for her.

Cheers.

Welcome Hurdy, the Ed30 is a very nice car.

As a daily driver the ST is excellent. Very relaxing to drive with lots of low-down torque.
I've had 2 years with my ST and not a single problem (apart from being crashed into, but thats hardly the cars fault!)

To satisfy your modding side, a simple remap will take the ST to around 270bhp (according to the tuners).

Hello and
to the club.
The ST is great to drive daily as its a nice and comfy car with plenty of low down torque. You can get a few rattles in them though. A quick remap will get you to around 260-270hp. On top of that an uprated intercooler, full exhaust and a CAIS/Induction kit will probably get you to around 300hp. A few people have had a problem with driveshafts, but if you do get an ST you wont regret it.

if your re mapping the car then avoid the 07 model

they seem to be prone to clutch slip under extreme torque

i wish i knew this before i bought mine....would have spent the extra ££££ on the facelift

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone

I'm not a total newb to the Ford world as I have had a MKIII XR3, classic old car a long time ago, with the teledial wheels....and for my sins I chose white too.

I'd be looking to buy something in the new style ST for her, what year model did they change the style?

to the forum Hurdy, the design changed in 2008 to the facelift. It might be worth waiting 'till the new year if you're looking at buying new, as the 2010 ST3 will come standard with many of the extras you currently pay more for. The only downside is it will come with black alloys

along. Only had my ST for a year, but its been brilliant. There wont be any complaints coming from her if she gets one.

Hi,

I understand where your coming from being a die hard VW fan as most of my mates are too!

Always been a Ford fan and i really dont think you or your mrs. would have a problem with the ST.

All my mates say the ST is a great car and have been pleasantly surprised with the reliability of my blue ovals over the years!

If your into modding, i couldn't recommend the Mountune upgrade enough. All the bits are top quality and you keep your warranty. Best bit is that it drives like a normal ST...Comfortable and easy to live with.

One last point is that the ST engine happens to be derived from the Volvo 5 cyl unit which in turn had been developed by Audi many moons ago before Volvo bought up the rights!

(i'm probably going to get heavily corrected here but i'm 99% sure that this is true!)

Hope this helps
