Hi,

I'm getting my
Image
2 (orange of course!) on the 1st, and would like to fit an aftermarket in dash navigation system (a custom PC). Does anyone know where the GPS antenna is located on the focus when purchased with the ford navigation system, and can this be purchased separately from ford parts and easily fitted?

Cheers all

Not sure where the Ford fitted item is loacted on the ST, somewhere on the windscreen I would Guess? Any one elese help out here??

Most after market systems are available with a separate antenna should you wish to mount elsewhere, or you have a heat reflective screen for instance (not on the ST).

Cheers,

The standard-fit Ford GPS antenna isn't the most aesthetically pleasing device, it has to be said. The Golf GTI and most other German cars (BMW/Merc et al[/]) have far cooler 'shark fin' GPS aerials..

Just like the New S-Max and Galaxy.

Thanks Tony, price would be great! Can i assume you or a contact works for ford? :)

How easy do you think it would be to swap with the original?

Any one have any close up pictures of what it looks like on an orange?

I have the Ford SatNav and everyone here has pretty much provided the answer. The aerial base is bigger and more bulbous at the front than the standard aerial mount. To be fair it is not too bad and I don't notice it any more. If you check out my garage you may be able to see it on one of the pics.

keep us posted on how you get on with the custom PC thing, I've been thinking of looking into something similar myself instead of getting satnav / bluetooth kit / etc all separately but I haven't got round to thinking about it properly yet.

Wow the lead is the most expensive bit !!

I think the aerial mast is identical for all models so you may not have to buy this. The base unit and wiring is the crucial bits.

Re the cable, it is so long ago that I removed my satnav system that I have forgotten how many connectors there are. There is definitely 3 but could be another too. I don't remember there being an obvious aerial lead though as there was on older Ford stereos.

The main large quadlock is definitely for the stereo but this contains no aerial connector/satnav cable. There is also two smaller quadlock type connectors at the bottom of the unit although I thought these were for the lighting, climate, and the DVD drive. I don't remember there being a completely separate cable for the aerial / satnav cable but then it could have been part of one of the smaller quads.

Good luck with your install.

Cheers Tony. I wonder why the aerial is different? The satnav receiver is in the base so this aerial is still just for the radio....unless it has the capability of doubling up as the phone aerial too for the premium BT kit. Or perhaps it just has a different method of connection to the slightly different aerial base?

Hello peeps, sorry about the delay in replying, been in sunny Italy for a while. Thanks for the info and prices! The oem one does look a bit ugly, i think i'll see what else is available before i commit to the blue oval option.

For those interested, i'm starting work on the design for the touch screen and dvd slot drive enclosure for the sony replacement in AutoCAD in the next couple of weeks... (hopefully if i get time, may be busy driving my new car! only a few hours left!)

Bit of a tricky one as the GPS aerial does not connect to the back of the head unit and instead connects to the back of the SatNav control box, which is in the roof of glovebox and cable access is not good. Tbh I am not even sure where the FM aerial connects as I cannot remember seeing this in the back either. Having said that it was over a year since I removed the thing
