I'm considering the Focus ST-3, currently have a TDI A3.

As far as I know a lot comes as standard, including auto lights and xenons?

I've read the guides above and a few threads, anyone else have any advice?

Looking at quite a few ranging from 17k right down to 14k and mileage up to 22kish, what is best?

Want to p/x and finance for the rest. Also want a warranty so going with Ford only. Saw a nice one but it has been modified

I am 23, insurance coming in at 1k, allowing fuel and maintenance expenses too. Also tax is £450/year I think?

Anything else I am missing?

Tax is £220 mate, any links to the car you've seen, just because its modded doesnt mean it a

car. Most cars on here are modified and are looked after very very well. Why wouldnt you want a tastefully modded car?

Leaning towards Three, currently have a DSG 06 TDI (remapped to 181bhp) very nice to drive and picks up well when rolling, will the ST wow me?

I'm hoping to test drive one tomorrow!

Erm YES! Go and get yourself a few test drives you will fall in love with it! The performance and sound is astonishing when you first get in! After a while you kinda get used to it which is a shame!

if your used to a TDI the biggest wow factor youll get is how quick the petrol guage goes down!

in your first post you mention auto lights and xenons being standard - xenons are standard, but the auto is an extra. If you look at the light switch and it has auto on there, you will also have auto wipers.

Been on too many forums and seen too many car thefts to use my real PC

Thanks for the info, I do about 10k/year now so it shouldn't worry me too much. Used a fuel calculator comes in around 2.2k/year in fuel.

For 17k I'd expect you to pick up a "pre-post-facelift" car with very low mileage but I'm no expert. Maybe a bit older/higher/less spec'd if you go through Ford Direct.

My only advice is the

is a cracking car but not worth steeping yourself into any great debt over. If you are happy you can afford to buy, run and maintain then do it dude. Any ST is a great ST but make sure it's

they go faster

i hope you didnt use fords mpg figures in the calculation

Just on a slightly different note - I'm waiting to pick my 07 ST3 up, but shop around for insurance. I'm not looking to do any serious or extensive modifications in my first year with the car and hence I've got the insurance for £660 (£250 excess) fully comp with breakdown cover from Elephant - and that also includes the missus. I'm 22 with 3 years NCB, 5 years licence - all clean etc.

Greenlight quoted me £920 (£500 excess) fully comp and they are mod friendly, despite the admin charge to add the mods to your policy. Some other specialist insurers won't yet quote me until I've had a year on the car, at which point I'll look at getting mods done at renewal time to fire up a new policy with no fees with another insurer.

So if you're not looking at doing anything major to the car - perhaps look at Admiral / Bell / Elephant for insurance. Even sticking one or both of your parents on a policy will knock it down. Just might save you a few bob.

As has already been said the biggest shock will be how fast the fuel goes down!

I went from as leon 2ltr TFSI and its fair bit thirstier than that with the type of miles I do (stop start)

Anyway I think ford direct is a good route to go down I got an 09 with 7k on it for £16850. includes the DAB radio (not sure if the 08 has it)

I got my 07

-2 with just 7k on the clock for £12995. So far it hasnt been that bad on fuel but its all how u drive, you will love the sound so expect to making lots of noise
