Focus St3 Alternator Failure

398 Views 11 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  kevster st
brought a st3 focus on a 06 plate about 6 months ago, been very pleased with the car only has 18k on the clock,

last night battery warning light came on, managed to nurse it back to my work, but lost power steering.

Is the alternator a common problem,

also what to you think the chances of getting the alternator replaced for free, car came with 3 month warranty, so thats out, but to not think an alternator should fail afetr only 18,000 miles

regards

Your another one to add to the list I'm affraid. If you do a search you'll find a massixe thread on alternator faliure!
If you pay your £10'er you can add your name to the ever growing list of alternator failures.
Yes mate, they are very common at the moment, not good.

Also i think the garage you got it from will fob you off as your well out you warranty less you can try giving them the puppy eyes
.
I also read its a very expensive job but as above pay £10 and you will find out everythin you need and also were the best place and price is to buy.

Mine died about two months ago, Batt light, loss of P steering, burning smell, £350 later, was fixed......its as common as S**T in a sewer.......Mine was at 18000 miles too, its about every 3 years or 20k seems to be the norm....
When you become a member you will see just how common a problem...good luck fella, OH yes,

As previously stated it's a common problem so we started a topic for everyone who has had alternator failure:

http://www.focusstoc.com/forums/Alternator...ure-t41160.html

Our hope is that, armed with this list of failures, you may be able to seek some sort of "goodwill" contribution from Ford against your bill.

Good luck!!
Mine was an 06 at 20500, £170 for part from ford then £100 for "Mates rates" fittment at private garage.

I had batt light and buring smell but didnt lose power steering.... It is quite common although ford tell you its not!
Does the new alternator last longer than 20k? Or does the new one die again?
I saw that you had it on the forcourt at you work dude , hope you get it sorted
